So I decided to try Vista 64 on my main rig after having a good experiance with it on my laptop.

However, after initially loading the machine spends a couple of minutes just TRASHING my HD. I have no idea what this could be. I turned off the restrore point and indexing.

And no, my laptop doesn't do this.

8800GTX
4gb (2x2) mem
150GB Raptor

So whats up with this?

You sure indexing is off? Running Nero? It also has indexing, have you also turned prefetching off?

Is the PCs speed affected? I have indexing and restore on with my PC and at times it will thrashed the HDD at start up, but it doesn't affect the speed at all.

Just update to SP1 and it will stop trashing HD.

Disable the swapfile and see what happens?

It's the Superfetch feature (service) that is causing that to happen. If you turn it off, which you may or may not want to do, the thrashing will stop.

Okay, I have turned it off and on the second time I rebooted, the HD trashing stopped.

Thx all
