Is GParted suppose to take 36 hours?

I wanted to see how well the program GParted worked so I downloaded the iso burned it to a cd, rebooted, and booted from the cd. I have two operating systems installed on my 320gb HDD, xp and vista so I wanted to partition them according to how frequently I use them. I decided to shrink the xp partition by 30gb and increase the vista partition by 30gb. The shrinking phase took like 20 minutes but now the increasing phase is taking forever. I already ran it for 12 hours and it completed one step but now it looks like its running again and this time its taking twice as long. Is a simple repartition suppose to take 36 hours? If I cancel this in the middle will something bad happen or will it just not be partitioned correctly? I really dont want to run this for another 24 hours because its totally not worth it to me. Thanks for your help.

Ive only seen Partition magic in action, and it dont take very long.
Im not familiar with GParted, but it must be simalar to PM. If disk is full, then it's going to take longer, also if it's fragmented alot. But still, disks these days are fast, so maybe it's running in an undesired transfer mode, (ie no driver support)
12hours sounds too much to begin with I think, for the whole process that is.

Unless the program supports an abort process (can't see how it could tho) you would prolly suffer bad data loss if you were to cansle in the middle of the process.

It has been over two years since using gparted, but it never was that slow. I would say there is something wrong.

Yep, you have a problem.

Did you verify the checksum? Have you tried booting to either OS since you began? I think you'll be lucky if you can get either to boot. I would not have recommended GParted for win partition work.

I've used Gparted not too long ago, and it worked rather fast.
I'd say that there's something clearly wrong on your side if it takes that long...
Since you're using Vista - it screws around with partitions in some funny way when you create them or format them within Vista (including the setup program that installs Vista), causing trouble for any other software for modifying the partitions.
