Well, my Windows Update doesn't download SP1, it gets stuck at 19% and says "Failed" and gives me an error called "80070002", I clicked "Get help" and it asks me to stop Windows Update, delete the files AND folders in DataStore (I think?) folder, and delete the Files (only?) in the Download folder.

I did that, turn on the Windows Update again, same thing.

So I downloaded SP1 from Microsoft.com, and I start to install, and I get this:

http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/2209/sp1errorug1.jpg

Every time, at that exact same place, it happens. I got nothing opened on Background, AVG closed, lavalys closed, MSN closed. I tried going to the site it says, and I did the following "Resolutions"

Reboot and start Windows update and see if it picks up the "Windows Tool", doesn't pick up ANY update but SP1.

Run the sfc /scannow test, tried after, nothing

Checked disk for errors, nothing

Ran the Memory diagnostic tool, nothing

What am I suppose to do to fix this...? I can download and install any other updates from Windows Update easily except this one...

Thank you for the help

Did you used Vlite to remove Vista addons?

Umm no, this is a brand new computer, Only thing I have on it is pretty much my games (Crysis, Bioshock etc), every Vista update that was recommended as well as a few Extras, and that's it.

Take a look at TechNet forum about this issue:

http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PageIndex=0&SiteID=17&PageID=0&PostID=2605089

Find setupapi.dev file and open it with Notepad, see what file missing caused the error.

Problem is, my windows update is just getting stuck at 19% then it gets the same Error without the 0x at the beggining...

Edit: My windows Update, after deleting files etc, starts downloading fine from 1 to 6%, at 6% my DSL pretty much stops working to download it, then it jumps up to 19% a few seconds later, and it fails...

It depend how big a NVNews post can handle, if it cant do it then you can upload the file to a hosting site like RapidShare.

I dont understand tho... I delete all the logs and stuff, then try windows update, it starts from 0 to 6% compeltly fine, AS SOON as it hits 6%, you can see my DSL lights stop flashing, and then a few seconds later it jumps up to 19% and gets stuck for abit, then it gets the error...

Well look like it the DSL modem, try download the latest DSL driver and if it connected to USB port then disconnected it and connect the DSL with Ethernet cable to Ethernet port.

The thing is, I can download any other Update without a problem, my DSL working perfectly for everything, plus, wouldn't it let me install it from the SP1 I downloaded off Microsoft if it was for DSL?

It possible that your DSL modem caused Vista SP1 installation failed, same things happened to every DSL and cable modems connected to USB port caused router firmwares corrupted during update, manufacturers advised it connected to Ethernet instead of USB to complete update router firmware successful.

If a new DSL driver and connected to Ethernet port didnt help then download the standalone Vista SP1 file, uninstall the DSL driver and disconnect the DSL modem. Run Vista SP1 installation to see if it no longer produce the same error.

Solution

- uninstall old sp1 beta or rc

- reinstall vista (insert the cd click Setup.exe (if autorun is disabled) and choose “update”)

- after the update iscomplete, install all updates via Windows Update

- install the new SP1

Does this mean Format? or just put the Vista CD in and click "update"?

No it do not mean format, it mean update some Vista files copied from the DVD or from Internet.

Yes it safe to install it. I finally got it installed on my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop after updated new audio driver that compatible with SP1, downloaded and went through installation on 3 stages fine. Noticed it run quicker than before. :D

I'm experiencing that exact same issue. Stupid Microsoft and their updates. It appears like 25% or more are experiencing this same problem.
