View Full Version : Chipset cooler recommendations?

Hey all, got me an Asus P5K SE. Sweet and stable, but the SB and NB are passively cooled. I need an offset cooler for the SB due to the gfx card, and hopefully a NB cooler that will allow a large aftermarket HSF for the cpu to be mounted. Strictly air cooling btw.

Recommendations are appreciated. TIA! :)

thermalright offset HR-05 SLI/IFX / straight up HR-05/IFX.

I was eyeballing those earlier - Has anyone you know used one?

Just out of interest, Grey. Why do you need better cooling. Those chips run nice and cool, and for me the stock sinks did a good job.

Grats on yer purchase BTW, good mobo

Thanks on the gratz!

My NB feels cool to the touch, even under load, but my SB feels almost painfully hot, and it's close to my 8800s fan intake. Kinda concerned about load temps when overclocking.

What surprises me is the retail cpu fan. Little low profile job that came with my E4600. Idle is around 27c, load (gaming only so far) around 42-46. Very quiet so far.

Like I said though, mainly concerned about overclocked load temps.

on other forums people love them, I plan on getting these as well for my board.

I got this on my northbridge and shifted the stock passive northbridge cooler over to my southbridge when I built my rig.

It seems to work rather well and I can't hear it over any other fan in my system.

That looks good, thing is my GTS overhangs the SB by 3/8" or so, even my passive NB wouldn't fit without cutting a good chunk out of it. LoL, wouldn't be the first time, just trying to keep it pretty. :p

Thanks Bro, I'm loving it so far. I was surprised how narrow it is, more room in my Antec 900 to play with. Once I'm happy with the cooling I can start seeing how well this overclocks an E4600. :)
