after a few days of fumbling around trying to find which OS was best suited
for my needs i decided to use Xp 32 bit, SP 2. -driver support is by far the best
and i'm doing audio recording as well as gaming so it's a good balance for both.
anyway, i fired up crysis on the freshly installed o.s and gave it a run. to my amazement
i've never seen the game run so smooth. i put on the -devmode and jumped back in game
and the fps NEVER went below 30 and was usually between 40 and 50 CONSTANTLY, unless
turning quickly n what have you. yeah yeah, i know vanilla dx9 mode -but it actually
looks pretty darn tootin'. -coupled with the high FPS it's really like playing the videos
minus the sun flares, and a few other fancy details. but, right now i don't really care..

Vanilla usually means software in it's original state. No expansions or updates, modifications etc.
Quake 3 Arena = vanilla. Quake 3 Rocket Arena = not vanilla (chocolate chip)

What matters though is what resolution and settings were you using?

Oh ok. i was thinking its furthsday smarch the 3st!
Amazing. My computer is better and I don't get those framerates unless I run at low. Even medium in some places runs lower than 20 fps even though it's select places. I run at 1680x1050.

running at 1280x1024 with everything on high, except shadows on medium.
(you can really tell the difference and the fps boost is huge).
it looks great, and it's FAST ! which im enjoying right now over eye candy.

Are you running DX9 or 10 in Vista though? try DX9 made a world a difference between choppiness and playable for me.
