I have read some on this, and I have put it off for some time now. What free tools are best for the job?

I am a little tired of having to install XP and updating from SP1. I would love to have an updated install cd/dvd with all the drivers and software I use already on it.

there are many tutorials online. in the end though, i used Nero to burn the disc. slipstreaming is the easy part, making the disc bootable is a little tricky, but still easy with a tutorial.

Yea thats what I am dreading, not having a bootable cd. It should be as easy as mklivecd is in Linux.

Baaa... we will see as I have to reformat XP this weekend. I am looking forward to it like a trip to the dentist.

N-Lite has an option to make the iso and CD bootable when slipstreaming XP with service pack.

no you can make a bootable disc. just follow the instructions. first you use a program (usually free) to take off the boot info, then just follow the instructions to add it. if you cant get the boot file, pm me and ill email it to you. ;)

Thanks Vin, I think I can get nero to burn it as an ios and it boot, but there is another issue stopping me. I gave it a shot last night, after finding a super simple command line tutorial.

The problem is my install cd is scratched and it errors out copying the cd over to the folder I created at the same spot each time. The last time I reformatted I had to use a really old cd drive as my dvdr wouldn't even recognize the cd from the damages.

I am gonna try it with the older cd drive today, but if it won't work I am gonna try a repair on the cd. I don't know anyone I can get an install cd from so if it doesn't work I may be stuck buying another copy :(

I don't see why you seem to ignore AthlonXP1800 posts, he's given you the simplest and easiest way to slipstream your XP CD.
Rather than stuffing around looking for tutorials on how to do it manually just use nLite and it will painlessly slipstream XP, add/remove components, and make a bootable ISO and burn it to disk........http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

That would be fine but the first step in any method is copying the install cd to a folder, which I can't. If you wold have read my last post where I thoroughly explained that, you would have seen that I think my install cd is damaged.

Very useful tool.

Did a slipstream of some of my OS disks and added drivers, oem info and much more.

Good find.

It's legal as long as you're using an existing legit installation key.

technically, yes. but you still need a an original cd key to activate it.

Which is a reason to not do something, not to completely ignore someone who's spending their time trying to help you out. Manners, you see, they're useful things.

I don't think I completely ignore anyone, and wth are you going on about manners for?

I had already dl nlite even before I started the thread, and was planning to use it to integrated sp2. I wanted more opinions from those who have successfully done so, thus my reason for posting.
