I have Asus EN8600GTS SILENT/HTDP/256M video card - http://www.asus.com.tw/products.aspx?l1=2&l2=6&l3=514&l4=0&model=1643&modelmenu=2.

But on FreeBSD 6.3/xorg 7.3/nvidia driver 169.12 i got this:
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 8600 GTS (G84) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): Memory: 524288 kBytes
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 60.84.41.00.00
(II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 16X
(--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU
(--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce 8600 GTS at PCI:1:0:0:
(--) NVIDIA(0): Sony SDM-HS75P (DFP-1)

and all other freebsd software (nvidia-settings for exmaple) reports about 512Mb of video memory. What is it?

The amount of memory reported includes system memory; from the `nvidia-settings` help text:

Memory

This is the overall amount of memory available to your GPU. With TurboCache(TM) GPUs, this value may exceed the amount of video memory installed on the graphics card. With integrated GPUs, the value may exceed the amount of dedicated system memory set aside by the system BIOS for use by the integrated GPU.

But my video card neither has Turbocache(TM) nor integrated GPU.
And amount of my system memory is still 2Gb as with my old 7900GS GPU.
