Okay, got the Q6600 locked down at 3.2 using P95 v25.5

Is there a program you all use to stress you GPU (8800GTX)to the max for hours on end? In the old days I'd use the Q2 Crusher loop, but that seems a bit ....... dated. ;)

So whats the new loop/test, where do I get it and how do I use it?

Thx!

Oh, and I'll be using Rivatuner to zero in on the O/C then Bios flash when I am sure.

To check your overclock for the best possible stability i highly recommend this to everyone: (http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/)
Leave it run for approx 30 mins as [Stability Test, 1024x768, Non Fullscreen(unless SLI) and x2 MSAA]

Now the Fur really pushes the card to its limits, so keep an eye on the temps throughout the test.
In theory no game will push the temps this high, its just to guarantee a certain degree of stability and peace of mind.

30mins = Overclock Safe
Do 1 hour+ tests for burn-in or if 30mins is too short for you.

Okay, will this thing fault/show an error message if its running into trouble?

Also, why the settings you suggested?

Thx for the link BTW ... reminds me of the ATItool test.

It won't show any error messages or faults. Windows will usually completely freeze if somethings wrong (too high overclock, instability).

Suggested settings are from my own experiences with using the program.

Best thing to do is, do a quick test with Ati-tool to check for a few mins and if it seems good (nofreeze/artifacts) then move on to using the Fur program.

What about in sli mode so both gpu's are taxed?

Or you can loop Crysis. Get the Crysis benchmark tool, then set the runs to 99 and add the test 6-7 times. Each 99-run takes about 50 seconds times 99 or more, depending on your FPS. Ie a run at 13fps takes much longer than a run at 50fps...

Is Fur a benchmark that requires an install or does it just execute?

It installs.

I just installed it and tried to run the Stability Test and it is borked. I tried different resolutions, fullscreen, windowed, different MSAA and all I get are weird lines that shift back and forth. Plus, my temperature on my card never changes. I'm using latest 180.48 WHQL drivers on XP 32bit. Not sure what the problem is.

Read my first post in the thread.

For SLI, use fullscreen. Should work

That Fur doughnut is best in my opinion , full screen with lots of AA should melt anything.

What is GPU stress test? Can you give more information about it? Or can provide some links so that I could test the stress.

If you want the toughest test for your GPU, get this one:

http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download

It will load your gpu like there's no tomorrow. The temps rise higher than w/ furmark and in addition it reports errors/artifacts.

My GTX 480 can pass furmark at 850/1700 1.075v, but it OCCT it reports errors after only 2 minutes. You need to make sure your OC is perfectly stable. If your card runs a 30-40 minutes OCCT max stress test with no error, then you might consider that oc bullet proof.

My max & perfectly stable oc with OCCT is 800/1600 @ 1.050v and that proved rock solid in every game.

I thought OCCT was just CPU, Maybe my memory is failing.

Why didnt I use this before for GPU!

ATITool just messes up on fail and locks/Restarts/Arrggg and doesn't alert when there's a yellow pixel so I have to keep watching it ,OCCT doesn't do that does it?

Just stumbled. Wanted to say Kombustor is excellent for GPU stress testing (http://mytechencounters.wordpress.com/2011/05/12/how-to-stress-test-your-gpu/)
