I use my rig as a gaming machine, thats it except browsing the net and listenin to music and downloading stuff...
soo...would this be better or a quad? like the 9300
Yup. 9300 has a low multiplier so even with a very high FSB your CPU speed aint gonna be too high. The E8400 has a 9x multiplier so even with a pretty average FSB of 400Mhz it'll be at 3.6Ghz. At that price it's a absolute bargain!
EDIT: Just had a quick look. The Q9300 has a 7.5x multiplier. So @ 400Mhz FSB it would be only 3.0Ghz :( Also you do very little that would use all 4 cores.
EDIT: Your mobo won't work with Penryn quads anyhow, only Penryn Duo's

Tru dat! I got an extra 2000 points in 3DM06 going from an E6600 to this E8400. Nothing's coming close for the money.

Does the loaf of bread have the 6 pin or 8 pin connector? I'm not buying a new PSU just for some ****ing toast.

HAHA great mind think alike.
Thanks for the heads up! I've been looking at the performance of quad cores in Crysis (the only game I'm playing thats giving me troubles) compared to the e8400 and it just didn't seem worth it. The quads are obviously more future proof, but this should be me by till Nehalem and the price is right. Not to mention its a massive improvement over my 3.0 Windsor! :D

oc'd 8400 runs quad core aps faster than oc'd quads
By the time games catch up with quad core there will be something better and cheaper so I dont think quad cpu's are all that future proof compared to the new dual.
Dual core 8400/8500 is the way to go for the next 8 months IMO, Hopefully a new revision can handle the volts better and not kill em.
