View Full Version : Bigger HDD (500GB) for XBOX-360 possible?

I remember reading an article about exchanging 20GB HDD in XBOX-360 "Halo 3 Edition" for something bigger (like 320GB or even 500GB).

Anybody done this? Locked it successfully? I do not care about loosing the warranty, but 20GB or even 120GB is too litle for both games *and* music/video collection.

So why are you asking it here?

Can you not use a USB HD caddy with a 360? I know my USB pen worked fine with it but I never tried a caddy.

IIRC, the 360 HDD has a specific sector on the disk that contains a hardware license key. You'd need to copy that key from an official MS 500GB HDD if you wanted to upgrade your HD with a 3rd party drive. You could technically copy the one that is in your current 20GB drive, but I think that in that case the 360 would only be able to see 20GB of your drive. Not to mention that you'd probably get banned from Live by doing it. It's really a shame since I am sure MS would probably charge like $250-$300 if they did make an official 500GB drive.
