That's a good question, I mean it has more shader power but less memory

Doesnt the GX2 have 1GB of memory, 512 per GPU?

Wich is 512 effective memory. I don`t think that`s what he meant though. The GX2 has more shader power but lacks memory bandwith wich is breaking it`s neck considering you only get SLI for high AA at very high resolutions. For anything else a normal single G92 GTS does the job without a hitch.

The GX2 is a sort of flawed product because it`s shortcommings are obvious at the settings one buys such a card for. I`d prefer 8800 GTX SLI over a GX2 any day. Prolly even over quad SLI.

I want a single graphics card that will be strong enough to play COD4 at max (Rez: 1440 x 900) Will the GX2 do that at 60FPS? IF so Then yes I would be happy with a 9800GX2

A simple G92 GTS will do that. I played COD 4 through at 1920x1200 2xAA 16xAF and it was smoth as silk. If you get a GX2 you will be more then fine for sure.

Great, I'm happy so. I play cod4 online. thats all I do really. I get 15 to 25 frames a sec on my current pc..... I bet that sounds bad to you fps freaks....

One thing tho: I only played it single player. I dunno if there is a huge difference with fps online. A GX2 should be doing great though even if it takes more performance in online mode. Your resolution is quite low for a GX2 i`d say. Considering you aim to have 60+ FPS at all time it is prolly worth it though.

I think 1440 x 900 is huge! does it get better if you go higher????? when you say too low for a GX2 do you mean the card wont run as well???

You start to see the benefits of the Gx2 above that res compared to lets say an 8800gt.
The GT handles I think everything very well at that res.

Now here's the problem, You want a Gx2 so you can play higher res. But with higher res comes higher demands on ram, 512mb is a bit low in those resolutions (ie 2500xXXX)
And if you run with AA+AF you may notice _huge_ frame drops, just because there's not enugh ram. As you know the Gx2 has 2x512 mb, but they dont work as 1gb, just 512mb. (they both hold the same data)

Id say they would need atlest 768mb ram each to be more future proof, preferably 1gb each.

So in situations of highres with AA+AF, two 8800gt's with 1gb ram each would outperform the gx2.

Well, 9800GX2 performance w/ AA is poor at 2560x1600, not so different from single 8800GTX-768@ULTRA (which I had before). However, at 2560x1600 most games do not need AA that much. I am getting very nice performance boost at Crysis, The Witcher and few other games that matter to me, but I (have to) play them with AA disabled.

If someone absolutely needs AA, 2x 8800GTX-768 is a much better choice.

The card can be also very loud at full load, Crysis is playable only with headphones (GPU -> 1200rpm), in The Witcher it has 850rpm and is reasonably quiet.

9800GX2 is not a definitive solution, I am selling it when GT200 comes. But without AA @ 2560x1600, it is still an upgrade from single 8800GTX.

I hate (from past bad experience) NVIDIA nForce chipsets, so 2x8800GTX in SLI was a no-go though.

I really like the GX2. It's nearly as powerful as my old GTX SLI setup .

Not at high resolutions with AA and AF. SLI'd 8800GTX's kill it due to the smaller bus on the GX2 card and less Vram.

Dude, if your only gaming at 1440X900 then please do not waste your money on a GX2. You will get over 60 fps just fine at that res with an 8800GT.

Also what CPU are you using and is it overclocked?

Oh, it'll run 1440x900 16xAA/16xAF Vsync/Triple Buffering at nothing less than 60 FPS, but then again, it'd probably do the same at 1920x1080 4xAA/16xAF. I currently play Cod4 online with my GTX at 1680x1050 with 16xAA/16xAF and i don't think it's dropped below 60 FPS with Vsync/Triple Buffering on.

I prefer to play multiplayer without AA and AF on the 8800 GTX. I don't know what my fps are exactly, but they aren't smooth enough for me in intense matches, probably a little below 60fps.
