I am sick and tired of this new banwagon saying Chris Paul has replaced Nash as the best point guard in the NBA.

Chris Paul is damn good. He's not better than Nash... yet.
I take it back. Actually, he is better than Nash.

Basically agreed. Chris Paul is very very good. Right now he has way more athleticism then Nash will ever have. He's quicker, faster, and can jump higher.
But Nash is 10x more creative with his passes. He is also a much better shooter. Something like 45% from the 3 point line and 50% in field goals. People jump out on Nash because they respect his shot which creates openings for passes.
When was the last time you saw Chris Paul do this:

Nash makes plays like this just about every game. He influence goes far beyond the stats sheet. Momentum is a very real thing in the NBA, and when you make playes like this it adds a ton of momentum.

Chris Paul has not had time to prove himself. Nash is the best there is.

Dude, come on :)
As much as I like Nash's game, you can't just put his career down to some fancy passes. Both Paul and Nash have atheletes to finish off the passes. You have to spare a thought for Kidd who, other than shooting, is dominating on both ends of the floor, including rebounds.
Best of all time in the NBA? Has to be up between Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson.
Today? Kidd and Nash rule the roost, in the NBA.
Can't say the world especially seeing whats happened the last several years in world basketball.
But, speaking of wicked passes, check out some of these.

The game is a lot different than when Magic was playing. I won't say Nash is better than Magic, but even Magic Johnson himself says that Nash is one of the greatest point guards of all time.
and while Nash hasn't thorwn a pass off his elbow, he has threw an alley oup off his head.

Nash almost brought the Suns back again tonight, but Marcus Camby hit a jumper because no one was guarding his weak ass.
18 assists, nothing to sniff at :)
Good win by Denver, nice comeback by the Suns but they NEED to defend.
A few free-throws made by Shaq wouldn't have hurt.

Nuggest played a really good game, and it was pretty much down to the wire.
Suns had opportunity after opportunity to close it out and they didn't. You win some you lose some. But the fact that they held it that close against a team playing that well gives me confidence that they'd win a 7 game series against them.
And BTW Steve Nash was about the only thing keeping them in the game in the 4th quarter. The guy is an amazing 4th quarter player.

95% of this website does not know who Chris Paul even is. If you said "What city are the Hornets in?" , they would say "Charlotte". Nash is a household name. Also add to the fact that nearly EVERY Suns game is on TV , Nash's face all over the place. Of course they will choose him.
Chris Paul is the best point guard in the world right now. He is #1 in the NBA for Steals Per Game. #1 in Assists Per Game. #4 in Assists per Turnover(which is EXTREMELY hard for as many minutes as he plays and assists he has). #4 in Double Doubles
I know you will come back and say "Well stats arent everything". You are right. They aren't. Stat stuffers like Dirt has incredible stats, but he really isn't that great of a player. Chris Paul did for the Hornets what Steve Nash did for the Suns years ago. Steve Nash is still number 2 or 3 Point Guard in the league, but Chris Paul is definitely number 1.

weak? Marcus Camby has one of the best mid ranged shots of any center in the league. He's even proven he can knock down three's when it counts.

Based on this year alone? Chris Paul. Based on consistency it has to be Nash.
Although part of me wants to say Ben Gordon since he's playing for Great Britain in the olympics. :p

Exactly my thoughts.
Nash has been a great point guard over the past few years. He is still great. It just so happens that this year, Chris Paul has overtaken him. To say Nash is still the "best" is the same as to say Shaq is the best center in the league... when he isn't. 3 Years ago, I would say without a doubt that Shaq is the best center in the league. This is not true now. The only difference in Nash and Shaq is that Nash is still playing at a good 90% of what he was and Shaq is only playing at 50%. I'll even go one step further with Shaq and say he's the best center of ALL TIME. So because he's the best center of all time, does that mean he deserves the right of being best center of TODAY? You'd be a fool to say yes.
It seems like people are giving Nash the status of "best" because of his past years. You can't give someone those honors over what they did in past years. If you were to say "who has been the best point guard of the past 5 years". Of course, I would say Nash because that would include previous years of combined accomplishments. Here and now, TODAY, Nash is not the best point guard in the league. Chris Paul is.
Being "proven" through past years does NOT matter. Chris Paul is the Best Point Guard in the World as of RIGHT NOW. Just like RIGHT NOW , Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world. This will probably change to Lebron James in the next two years. Of course though, there will still be fools calling Kobe Bryant the best because he is "proven" and has "rings". In two years time, Lebron will surpass Kobe for best player in the league. Previous year accomplishments do not matter when you are talking about TODAY. That only matters when you are talking of all time.

It is entirely possible that Paul is on a hot streak and will disappear and not play as well come playoff time... but even that "What if" doesn't deny what he's achieved this year.
