Not really surprised at customers moaned X-Fi drivers, Creative X-Fi responsible just 1% of Vista crashes in 2007.
Wonder what the X-Fi 2 spec will be?
hoepfully it's not crippled like their other cards for vista.

Oh it won't be. That's their secret. Re-release an aging product with minimal changes to hardware that comes bundled with flashy new software with up-to-date operating system support. The only reason current cards don't work with Vista as they should is because Creative doesn't want them to.

new x-fi driver will be released in late April/early May
No release date mentioned, but sounds like it will be soon.

there been hints about x-fi 2 since november 2007, it was mentioned in one or two leaked x-fi software cd-roms

Good the current up to date one keeps dropping sound down to only one speaker in all my games. A real pain in the arse.

X-Fi Vista drivers have been working fine here for quite a while...

They have been really good, up until the latest release.
Hopefully PCIe finally :)
Oh God, yes please.

Moaning about Creative's driver hasn't much to do with crashes. It's the crappy sound thats the big problem. With Vista x64/X-Fi/4GB there are many who have problems with crackling sound, and I even some times have constant distorted sound which may be helped by rebooting. And this has been reported to Creative's support by many users, but no they haven't fixed it even after 1+ year with Vista released.

same here, always worked great, still very happy about alchemy, creative really did a good ting with alchemy, and how fast it was out.

Since november update X-Fi drivers work really well for me under vista, but there are people with nForce boards that are not happy yet. The saddest part is that the "new" X-Fi will probably have features that can be enabled on the current card, but Creative won't allow it, to continue their trend of the last years

And even sadder is the fact that people will continue to support them by purchasing their products.

But what percentage of Vista users own Creative X-Fi cards?

Probably quite a few, otherwise people wouldn't moan as much.

It's not so much the drivers themselves that aren't supported, rather the software that makes the X-Fi worthwhile. When I migrated to Vista, I couldn't for the life of me find X-Fi software anywhere. Either I didn't have the disc, or it didn't support Vista. Don't remember which. But without all the fancy software, the card is basically useless. Thankfully that modder that just recently got all the legal threats had released an ISO he managed to get working with Vista.
Anyway, just to prove my point, this modder recently mentioned on this blog that he managed to get X-Fi's exclusive, highly touted crystallizer working on an Audigy card. Not only that, but he has DDL working on the X-Fi. :o

like i said before, DDL what really got him in trouble, DDL could work on X-Fi, pretty much everyone know that every Auzentech released Prelude.
Problem with DDL is that creative didn't have license from Dolby to use DDL on their x-fi cards. Auzentech actually payed Dobly for permission.
If creative would sit still and allow DDL to be released on their x-fi card, it would open creative to legal action from Doldy side.

DDL could run on anything. It's all software. So in effect Auzentech is as bad as Creative for not releasing DDL for all their cards ::D:
I'm not buying anything from creative after their current stunt.
