Hi all,

I suspect I know the answer to this, but I want to ask anyway: I've just bought an Asus EN8800GTX and it's idling at between 70 and 84 C (I've switched on some extra fans and jibbled some of the few wires within my case to try to improve airflow). The rest of my system temps seem around what I would expect (30 to 40C on a Q6600)

Is this hotter than it should be?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, that's too hot really. What are your load temps?

Just installed and run 3DMark06 (which came with the card, but isn't the latest version, as I found out when I tried to submit my mark - haven't these people heard of auto-updaters!) and the temp went up to 95 C during that (on default settings).

Damn! My 9800gx2 gets 51c load overclocked to 720/1750/2200 on air.

I thought you people know that 8800GTX is well known to be one hot little f&#^er.

Well here's my 3DMark score: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=6075917

That seems about what I'd expect. I also found some reviews which gave 8800GTX stock cooler temps of around 70 C idle, so I'm a bit happier now.

I'm almost certainly going to get an Accelero Xtreme 8800 cooler anyway. I just didn't want to void the warranty then find the card is actually broken.

The Accelero Xtreme 8800 will do the job nicely, it's dropped the temps on my 8800Ultra by over 20C, it would have to be the best performing after market cooler I've used but prepare yourself for the size of this thing.

Just install rivatuner and set the fan to like 60-70% it helps alot.

Yes, that is a very good idea, i have my fan at 74% witch is about the limit before you can start to hear the card. The stockcooler on the GTX is really quiet even at 100% its far from annoying. Its almost silent up to 75% so i go for that. Mine idles at around 55c and load around 70 - 75c

I changed the thermal paste to AS5, but the gpu temp increased by 2 degreeds lol, i think i made something wrong, gonna open it again and examinate it. I need new thermal pads tho, because everytime you remove and place the cooler you can damage the thermal pads, so i am gonna buy some first before i start messing anything more with it.
