You may not like him politically but you have to admit he is good and pretty cool. Sure it's a photo op but man it is cool to see our President land on a air craft carrier.

Notice Bush really likes to play dress up...that one other time he was wearing a bomber jacket.

Almost every president since the bomber jacket was introduced has put on a bomber jacket for photo ops.

My buddy John (ex-Navy) and I talked about this today he and I have come to an agreement. We only want to know two things.

1) Which wire did the aircraft snag? :p

If they caught the first wire, I'll be impressed. But if they caught the third wire, they're wussies and very lucky they didn't roll off the damned carrier right into the ocean.

2) How much did this PR stunt set back the American taxpayer?

Seriously, how many millions of dollars did this "Co-Piloting President Landing On Aircraft Carrier" public relations bonanaza going to set us back? Before Ex-Bu, spb, and Udawg start crying and whining that I'm being a "dirty Liberal hippie" by playing the "money" card, let me be very clear - these were not MY question.

These are John's questions, and he's the opposite of me. Whereas I'm a left leaning centrist, he's a right leaning centrist that voted for Bush, usually votes Republican, and was in the Navy for 4 months last year before he got discharged for health concerns. For the record, I never saw the President land on this carrier for I was sleeping off some vodka. But John did and he came right up to me tonight and said, "I gotta give respect for Bush for having the balls to be in that plane and land on that carrier...but I could tell the whole speech deal was pre-planned, pre-rigged and all that. The cameras were purposely placed around the President during his speech in such a fashion to give off that pre-produced vibe. The Navy demands those carriers to be immaculately clean at all times...but that carrier was just too damned clean."

:p :D :p :D

good question, wasn't a perfect landing. Aircraft came in a little flat and snagged a forewire:D

Guess there was a little pressure on the landing eh? Those planes were coming pretty close to the end of the landing area. Glad Bush didn't land it:rofl

who knows, probably not as much as Clinton's $48Million Safari:p

The sailors are always cleaning and painting the ship, the day before they were ordered to stop painting because they didn't want the president brushing up against wet paint. The flight deck is pretty dirty, thats eh one reason you didn't see him in a suit heh, look at all the flight controllers around and you'd see how dirty they were:lol: I like how the Navy deals with dirt, paint over it!

the speech kinda reminded me of Reagan's Normandy speech, I liked it.

Right after they took off en-route to the carrier Bush got to take over and took the plane to 6,000ft and had a little fun with it. The pilot offered to let Bush land the aircraft onto the carrier, just like I would, he declined;)

The Viking caught the #4 wire. This is a good thing because they are numbered in inverse order with #4 being the first wire you can catch.

He flew a Viking? Why wouldn't they let him go supersonic in a Hornet or a Tomcat or something? Vikings are damn boring

The Secret Service did not like the idea of them not being right next to him since the FA18 is a two seater.

So he is in a jet plane, surrounded by a carrier fleet. With around 60 other fighters there....and they needed another person to guard him?:D

You know the democrats seeth with jealousy :argh: as Bush talked in primetime from a warship after victory.

Bush speaking on the carrier is one of those presidental moments just like Kennedy speaking in Berlin and Reagan telling Gorbachev to tear down this wall.
