Saw this over at rage3d. Apparrently if your graphics card gets stuck for more than 2 sec. it will restart. There is a registry key you can add according to this article by microsoft. Be forewarned the key isnt originally there you have to add it. I currently added the new reg_word and am checking it out. Here is the orginal article:http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/wddm_timeout.mspx

To the mods: i madea seperate thread because I thought it was important enough to be seen outside of the sticky.

Negative. I've tried that before and it didn't make a difference.

WDDM introduced the idea to gracefully switch to VGA mode when GDI detects the GPU times out for whatever reason. It is similar to what ATI has (or used to have, im not upto date with Catalysts anymore), namely VPU Recover.

So in theory one should not see a crash, but a revert to VGA mode (1024x768 is the default now in Vista at least).

Nvidia is working on it, the TDR issue is close to the top on the fix list.
