Even if you wanted too we don't have much choice. The 9 series is going backwards. ::retard::

heh, the PS3 has everything I need for now. It looks awesome on my 42" LCD and now that DTS-HD MA is supported with the next update I think I am gonna go shopping for a receiver and good speakers.
heck it even has a nvidia gpu so its all good :D
All it needs now is The Witcher and Wolf Quest :p

They could do a console the Witcher fairly easily with a few tweaks.

I guess this thread is as good as either one to ask. You need to have HDMI audio for DTS-HD correct?

Probably do. ::(:
I use Optical myself. I really need to invest in a decent receiver and some speakers.

Yup... this news owns... I still love how certain people talked trash about the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player... guess what, it was the best, and it just keeps getting better. Guess those people just hate that their terrible format lost out.
Definitely can't wait to rewatch Kingdom of Heaven, Live Free or Die Hard, and X-Men 3 when this update hits.

I admit I hate that HD DVD lost out when it was actually the better product. Ahh well someday when the blu ray players are in better shape I'll buy one.
I haven't been around in a while but where is Evil Chris? Does he still come here?

Haven't seen him in a few months... I think his last post was something about gay mormons or something... something along those lines.

:udawg: That sounds about normal.
What actually is the best Blu Ray player out now (besides the PS3, I'd rather not have a game machine)? I think I saw somewhere that the new Panasonic DMPBD30K was one of the best. What do you all think?

yes.
to transport any multichannel lossless audio formats (either as bitstream or linear PCM), HDMI has sufficient capacity.

Does Optical and Co-ax NOT have the capacity? Or have they just made it so they WONT have the capacity?

They physically don't have the capacity unfortunately. I don't think the creators invisioned we would be at the stage we are now and so soon.

Optical is 4mbps max and coax is 10mbps max. HDMI is several gigabits but I don't remember the exact figure. DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD both need way more than 10mbps.

I see. Thanks guys. Much easier than googling. ::D:

Optical can transmit uncompressed audio but only has enough bandwidth to transmit 2-channel PCM not full 5.1 or 7.1 like HDMI can.

Same here, I've played around with Pirates of Carribean setting it to PCM track and letting my receiver covert to "surround" mode. Even though its not true surround, the difference is still quite noticeable. Can't wait to get a new receiver though, I've got my eye on the Yamaha RX-V663 (http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=567571) for a while. Hopefully I can get one by time Weeds (Season 3) comes out in June with its 7.1PCM track. We love that show, lol.
DTS-HD MA Limited

This is what the PS3 has. It is not a bug, it is just a limitation of the PS3. For full DTS-HD MA 7.1 playback across all titles with it, you need a standalone.
