If it hadn't have been for the Hornets dropping the ball like they have the past 2 weeks, I would have given Chris Paul the MVP hands down. Now, I'm not so sure.

Even though Kobe Bryant hasn't really been playing all that hot lately, the Lakers have been playing better than the Hornets. With the MVP award, its almost more important that your team perform well more than you do. This is causing me to change my stance from "Chris Paul Guaranteed MVP" to "It will be close". The votes will be down to the wire. I honestly don't even want to say "I think soandso will get it", just because it really is a tossup. Both Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant are just as likely to get the award. Yes, Chris Paul has done more with less, but at the same time Kobe Bryant has dealt with serious injuries galore with his team. Even Pau Gasol really hasn't been playing that great since being injured and returning. With all the injuries, Kobe Bryant's Lakers are still number 1 seed in the NBA. (I don't consider the East to be in the real rankings of NBA. Most of the East is just a half step above D league. Celtics can have 3rd or 4th or 5th seed, even though I still vote them to win the Championship).

What are your thoughts? Who do you think will be awarded MVP?

Kobe, hands down.

How can you say that Paul has done more with less. Look at the career numbers of West and Chandler and Stojakovic, amongst others. Paul has a team that can play inside AND out and yes, he has been the catalyst but he is as much blessed because of the other guys as they are that he is around. You forget that if not for injuries, the Hornets would have done very well last season.

Kobe played half this season with the team as last season and they were STILL top in the division. And Kobe defends brilliantly. Paul gets his steals like Iverson does, he gambles because of the insurance of West and Chandler behind him. Kobe shuts people down himself.

Kobe is the MVP. CP is good but doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence as Kobe.

For MVP he does.

If the Hornets were still number 1 seed CP3 would have MVP in the bag.

But they're not. And that's why Kobe's the MVP. He's a closer.

yep....

Biggest thing Kobe has against him is most everyone hates him. CP is a lovable guy.

If I had to guess now, I'd probably say Kobe. However. I would certainly not put money on it as CP3 has done a tremendous amount for the Hornets and that has not gone unnoticed.

LeBron James.

Honestly, there is no way that Lebron can win one if Kobe hasn't done so. Lebron himself has said that earlier this season, that how can he even consider himself getting the MVP easily if Kobe still hasn't gotten one.

CP3 has had a good season and the Hornets have played very well but, Kobe should have won it at least once over the past few seasons. Heck, Nash has won 2 and there is no way in hell he deserves 2 when players like Shaq have only won one time.

MVP isn't a lifetime achievement award. Previous years do not matter.

In all honesty, Lebron deserved MVP last year. Kobe deserved it the year before. Being that they both were on crappy teams(and in Lebron's case, he's on a worse team now), neither had won it.

Kobe deserves it this year. Not as some lifetime achievement award, but because even though he has some decent players he led his team to a #1 record. Like Jordan did. Like Nash did the last two years.

Saying this is a lifetime achievement award is an insult to Kobe's talent. He earned it this year.

I know it's not :)

I completely agree. But, you remember when Malone won over some dude named Jordan?

Kobe DESERVES it this year. He deserved it 2 years ago. I still would not have given the MVP to Lebron last year but he had a hell of a season and is having a hell of a career.

Makes me sad that I never got to see the Big O play :( I mean, averaging a triple double? Come the hell on, that's ridiculous :)

Kobe carried the Lakers to the top seed in the toughest NBA conference in many years. Without him, they are not even in the playoffs.

I hate the Lakers, but he's the MVP, no doubt about it.

I completely agree. My only complaint is when people say "Well Kobe deserved it previous years, so he's owed it this year". No, his previous years do not matter. He's playing great ball this year. Kobe deserves MVP... along with Chris Paul :D

When were the votes casted for MVP? Isn't it the 17th of April? I can't recall.
