I just installed vista home 64 bit and all updates including sp1. The only thing that doesn't seem right is when I cold boot my connected to icon down on the lower right always shows a red X for about a minute or so. During the time the red X is there I can still access the interwebz and browz my local lan folders. I do have an external NAS drive that is set to power down when not accessed. I had Vista home 32 bit running a few days ago without this problem.

Is all this needed ???

It's caused by the startup service used by the Asus sound card driver hanging during boot. I forgot what it's called. It's some kind of Adrian (spell?) analog audio device. Manually set that service to automatic delayed start should solve the problem.
