View Full Version : NVIDIA Vista Drivers contributing to extreme DPC Latency? Or hardware failure?

For some reason over the past week or so I have had intermittent stuttering issues on all audio/video applications and games as well. Those have now become constant for the most part.

I've tried the below X64 driversets:
163.75 WHQL
169.25 WHQL
169.28
174.74
174.85
174.88
174.93

All of them stutter most of the time now. However there are also times when there is no stuttering, just from leaving the computer on. They were removed/installed using proper procedures. I even tried a driver cleaner when desperate, with no change.

There is one commonality, however. Using the DPC Latency Check utility I can see that every 10 seconds or so the computer's DPC latency spikes twice at over 60,000. Disabling the NVIDIA driver instantly removes those spikes entirely. Enabling the NVIDIA driver immediately makes the spikes return. The airflow around my card is good and it is running at factory speeds.

Either this is an x64/NVIDIA/Intel RAID conflict, or I have a card that is on the way out. Going to call eVGA tomorrow, I think. Unless anyone else has an idea....

Wow, this is a weird problem.

I've isolated the problem with the NVIDIA drivers.

I am currently using dual output for Blu-ray. Output 1 is my Dell 22" monitor, output 2 is my Sony 60" KDS-60A3000 HDTV. If the HDMI input on the Sony is active (link connected to PC), but the Dell is the main active monitor, then it causes the stuttering and DPC errors. If the Sony TV is on but switched to a different input, no problem.

I believe the 174.xx beta drivers hosed my NVIEW. It doesn't seem to be switching monitors right anymore, and HDCP seems broken on output 2 even when rolling back to 169.xx. I can't even switch monitors anymore using NVIEW on any driver set, only with Windows control panel... Can anyone point me to a good driver/registry cleaner that works with x64 & Nvidia 174.xx drivers?

Man, this is a pain in the ass! :headexplode:

Have you tried changing the "Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration" setting? I think default is Multiple display performance mode, maybe try single display and make sure your playing the video on monitor #1

Tried it, still hosed.

For me I've had troubles with blu ray playback and using the dpc checker it seems that I get spikes of 414590 just at the moment the movies stutter, which is with several minutes intervals. All blu ray movies do it and the stutter is exactly the same every time (a couple of quick ones followed by a third one a few seconds later). I guess I'll try changing acceleration mode to single display, but it was pretty cool to see those spikes in that program!

It looks to me like there is some sort of failed handshake going on between the 8800GTS and certain TVs. This looks like a combination of firmware and driver problem, which unfortunately it appears has gone ignored by NVIDIA.

In fact, I recall a Sony rep stating in AVSFORUM that it was an Nvidia firmware issue which Sony has provided all the info NVIDIA needs to fix it with their HDTVs, yet NVIDIA has done nothing in response.

Do you have Everest running in the background?? I know when I have Everest running, i get spikes in DPC every 3-6 seconds(whatever the update ratio is). So try disabling Everest or other "hardware" software that read info from youre hardware/drivers.

I had it running but uninstalled it a while ago.

Like I said, this strangely seems directly dependent on whether my graphics card is actively handshaking with my HDTV on port 2 while I am using the PC on port 1.

Also, I called EVGA and they stated that they believe it is due to a known EDID problem with G80 when using DVI -> HDMI and that their solution was to buy a GeForce 9 card which does not have this issue. :thumbdwn:

I am going to buy driver cleaner and see if that does a better job of cleaning out whatever changes 174.74 made, then try installing 169.28 again which had worked pretty well for me for a while. While I believe the DPC/HDMI handshaking issue was still a problem with those drivers, at least NVIEW and HDCP worked properly with those...

Does anyone know the status of this problem? Has a bug report been filed to nVidia?

I have a problem where DPC's sometimes make my computer stutter. According to xperf they are related to module nvlddmkm.sys function 0xfffffa6002b432b0.

I have a Sony HDTV connected with a DVI-HDMI adapter, and the problem goes away if I turn the TV on and then back off. Also rebooting helps. Disabling the TV from the control panel also helps, but enabling the TV resumes the stuttering.

please let me know I am having this issue! I am a DJ and needed a video card to mix videos but the 8800m gts is causing all sort of audio problems within my laptop! are you planning on fixing this NVIDIA? anyone with any knowledge fill me in.

Do me a favour, try the Forceware 175.75, see if that helps ya. I dont know if you have the same issue I have but 175.75 helped me with weird sound I was getting on my HDTV from my HTPC 8800gt.

I thought I was just seeing things, but I'm experiencing the exact same stuttering on my 8800GTS and LG 37 Lb2r! It's annoying as hell, but it's nice to see that they've fixed it on the 9 series of cards. That at least means that I won't have this issue anymore next month. :Dhttp://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=31892&stc=1&d=1213429887http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=31893&stc=1&d=1213430050

I had this issue before and it was fixed with a bios update. Now its back but this time it seems like a driver problem.
175.xx works fine and 177.xx gives spikes, same thing on xp64 and 2008 x64.
