Try to imagine 4x of those GPUs in your Intel mobo :)
Imagine how enjoyable the input lag will be. ;)

8800GT / 9800GTX / HD4850 / HD4870 performance in 3D Mark 2006
http://my.ocworkbench.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=431373
8800GT: 100%
9800GTX: 110%
HD4850: 120%
HD4870: 132%
So, the HD4870 X2 should be a lot faster than the 9800GX2. The G92b should have a 30% higher clock, to face this new chip (around 780 MHz).
I dunno if nVidia plans to face the X2 with the GT200, but, i think that this time, the difference in performance between the two companies, will be smaller than in the past battle.
I would guess the GTX280 would also be more expencive, too. Also the ATI card are packed with lots of nice features, HDMI out with audio, X-fire, multi-monitors when running in X-fire, etc, etc. Should be good seeing the results.
VR-zone posted a screen capture of Folding@home forums page where Vijay Anand - The lead F@H guy) blurbed that the next ATI VPU would have 480 SPs?

But the screenshot could have been faked....who knows
Getting intersting now
Hmm....don't Xfire cards scale alot better in Xfire compared to nvidia? Yet Nvidia single gpus are faster...which seems in xfire/sli they seem...abit closer...though gt200 is something else -.-
I have a good feeling about the 4870. This may be the year for AMD. I am hoping xfire or crossfire.

No, not really.

No, yes really. Crossfire has scaled better in every bench I've seen anyway, it gets nearly linear 2 to 1 scaling, as I recall.
Same...every from memory thats what all reviewers say and the charts back it up. Now if ATi can get there Single GPU to scale up too...it might give SLI a good run.
It's sounding like the default 4870 will only be 512MB. It will be up to partners to release 1GB versions :( This isn't good, especially since we always seem to see more memory on slower cards over faster ones.. for marketing reasons. I doubt that will happen this time, but it just shows that they might not be in such a rush to get out a 1GB version.

The other nice thing with AMD/ATI cards are their idle power draw is quite a bit less then Nvidia. I know at load they are normally a tad higher. but you think about the amount of time in a day that your GFX is on full load and I bet its not much compared to its idle time.

How many of us would take slightly lower idle power over a card that performs better. I doubt you'll find anyone, except for fundamentalist tree huggers.

I hate these new giant single fan POS coolers, why dont they go with a dual fan design like the new Asus and Visiontek ATI cards. :bleh:

I'm sooooo thinking of dual 4870s or even dual 4870X2s right now... :drooling:
Pair that with my Q6600 and you have a setup to die for. :D
Is that full on Copper?
Nvidia stock heatsinks always seem to suck donkey compared to ATi...
G280 will blow the doors off ATI.

I think that the 4870 won't be up to par with the GT200, but the 4870X2 could be, and a couple of them could be the fastest gfx subsystem for the intel mobos owners.

Aye.
The pricing / Xfire scaling along with those users on x38/x48 mobo's will probably love ATi's solution for Multi GPU over nvidia.
I want to get GTX280 when it's out...but..if Xfire from ATi shows good results...i might jump on them....but if Xfire 4870x2/xfire can only 'match' or 5-10% faster than a single GTX280...then defeantly GTX280 is the better choice.
Nvidia Single GPU maybe faster than ATI's..but for those who want multi gpu solutions and those on x38/x48 will defiantly be going ATi..provided they can beat a single GTX280 ><.
I for one can't wait. My bday is on 29th...so its "Cha Ching" time ><...

If you thought the GeForce 8 series blew the 7-series out of the water, this is going to leave you in shock. That's not my own marketing spin... Benchmark Reviews is presently testing the new GeForce video card.
I just wish a strong card to finally upgrade to 1920x1200 without fears.

QFT !
Unluckily, i need the SSAA modes, and i think that ATi doesn't support them at all :(

It do not look like 4870 will be up to par with GT200.
According to AMD roadmap, the 4870 will challenge Geforce 9800GTX, not GT200. 4870 is either bit faster or bit slower than Geforce 9800GTX.

So R700 4870X2 will challenge GT200. :)
