Yeah most likely the 800 figure came from 480 SPU's for shading + 320 for physics ..
320 dedicated to physic? i tough standard shading unit could do physic math ?
what's the point as no one game actually support it ? 40% of all logic unit dedicated to ... air flow ?

The truth will be out shortly and put all the FUD to rest, thank goodness.
i hate that too . i never understood the goal of this FUD ? all geek have "ads block plus" so , i don't see the point , really...

The first generation of any hardware is really geared toward two types of people, those interested in the bleeding edge of performanc and software developers.

SWWEEET that means i can get it now! the store's address is shown on that receipt! i love hong kong :p
I bet MUYA wont miss that :p
BTW 15K is a great score! .. most stock 8800U's score like 13-14Ks depending on the processor.
(i get 13200 on my system below).

Single GPU ftw because you always get the full performance, no Multi-GPU driver support issues.

& no AFR latency issues ;)
doesn't matter what drivers are being used, the x2 won't go up against the 280 ;)
Because the R700 hasn't not been revealed yet. Everyone is still talking about ATI's midrange chips.

It seems to be a winner as it turns out. It beats the 8800 Ultra in quite a few tests, and even the GTX260 in a couple.

Gotta love competition.
Edit: And that's the single chip mid-range card and not the x2 btw.
Seems like the aa issue is fixed, wonder how high the 4870 is clocked.

I sincerely hate saying this- but I do have my doubts. Look out the background for that second screenshot- that's essentially photo realistic. The cars, the buildings, too good to be true. It looks like it was taken directly out of a blockbuster hollywood production. I just have my doubts if the entire frame is rendered in real-time is all.
If it is... then I'm gonna' be getting a couple ATi cards this round. :D

Radeon 4870 runs Crysis well.
30+ FPS at 1920x1200
Crysis is a tough title as it scales very poorly no matter what graphic card or cards you have but at the same time you can only dream of 60 or 100 FPS at some top resolution.
Not even three GTX 280 cards are going to give you some cool performance number and we've learned that on a mainstream quad core Radeon HD 4870 can score 30.5FPS at 1920x1200. Unfortunately this is the resolution without FSAA and Aniso and if you really want to push it with 8X FSAA you will score quite acceptable 27.90 FPS. With this game this is considered as a great score.
Radeon 4850 scores 25 FPS at 1920x1200 no FSAA and Aniso and 21.7 FPS with 1920x1200 with 8X FSAA on.
It is interesting to point that with current driver Geforce 9800GTX scores 18.6 FPS at 1920x1200 no AA and 11.9 FPS with 1920x1200 8X FSAA.

Radeon HD 4870X2 faster than GTX 280, no microstuttering?
Written by Andreas G 07 June 2008 19:39
Radeon HD 4870X2 is the high-end part of the Radeon HD 4000 series. Like the Radeon HD 3870X2 it sports two linked GPUs on a single PCB. The exact nature of the link is unknown, but we've been told that AMD has done some major changes to the linking since the last generation, since AMD was quite displeased with the performance of the 3870X2 bridge chip. According to a recent post at VR-Zone, citing a source who does not want to be named by name, Radeon HD 4870 will not suffer from microstuttering since the communication will be done through the memory instead of a bridge chip. This should also have a positive effect on the CrossFireX performance.
Microstuttering is a result from using AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering). The frames are then sent to the monitor at an uneven rate (more like two and two instead of a steady flow) which causes stuttering. Running two Radeon HD 4870X2 in CrossFireX for three or four GPUs should still have the same rendering problems though, I.e. if AMD hasn't come with another new feature for the Radeon HD 4000 series, but we're skeptical there.
There will also be Radeon HD 4850X2 cards which will instead use GDDR3 memory and lower clocks overall, but this is an optional card for partners. The performance of this card will of course vary depending on the clocks, but it should still be in the high-end part and able to compete with the GeForce GTX series, while the 4870X2 and its GDDR5 memory is estimated to beat the GTX cards with a margin. Both cards are slated for a fall launch.

Those results from fud sound a bit too good to be true... would be nice, though.

NVIDIA to release GeForce GTX PLUS SKU and price drop
Posted by Hilbert Hagedoorn on June 19, 2008 - 6:41 PM
Guru3D.com ImageI can't help thinking that NVIDIA is getting a little worried about ATI's Radeon 4000 release next week. I just started testing the new RV770 GPUs myself and can tell you already, these are very price/performance effective products. Very interesting indeed as the cheapest Radeon 4000 series card will definitely match or is faster than a 9800 GTX.
To counteract the new Radeon 4000 products NVIDIA decided to quickly create another SKU in the market called NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ Pretty much it is a faster clocked NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX, and next to that ... the price is dropping pretty significantly towards a suggested retail price of $229 USD. Even better news, the GeForce 9800 GTX will drop towards 199 USD !
Gotta love the competition and after next week it's definitely going to be interesting to purchase a higher specced mid-range card as they'll get you excellent performance for the money you pay.
The GeForce 9800 GTX+ takes the highly efficient G92-based GeForce 9800 GTX and offers value for value conscious gamers.
Key product points:
* GeForce 9800 GTX+ is the best single card price/performance at $229; the original GeForce 9800 GTX will transition to $199
* Shader Processor clock of 1836MHz and graphics core clock of 738MHz
* GeForce PhysX support! World’s only physics API for both the CPU and the GPU!
* Support for CUDA-based applications, including Folding@Home and Badaboom video transcoding applications.
* Support for 2-way and 3-way SLI
We just received a new XFX card which has the close to GTX+ clocks, I'll try and review that one asap.
Good times ;)
Gotta love competition!

I hope that ATi found the way to share the memory between the 2 GPUs in the X2 cards.
Radeon 4870 runs Crysis well.

Says the fudzilla.
OTOH i'm surprised how not even a single bench for the 4870 has leaked.
