I just DL'ed 3dmark '06 for the first time in a LONG time, and this graph causes me to ponder: which result set is equal to the game test sets that run in the free version?

(I'm getting 1300 with a 7800 GS, and this graph is the first I've seen that lines up with my current card's performance, i.e; I'd imagine that if a more current generation and high clocked 8600 GTS gets 3XXX, then it'd make sense for my lower-clocked previous-gen card to get 1XXX)

... or is the "HQ" test something only available with the purchased version?

The orange bars look more like the scores I remember, but 1300 sounds pretty low for a 7800GS if an 8600 GTS gets 5800.

To be honest, they should be fairly close. The 8600GTS was neutered pretty badly and was usually on par with or slower than the 7800 and 7900 cards.

Of course, it is 3D Mark. They probably tack on 2000 points just for having an 8 series card. :p

I deduced that they were inferring to the driver control panel image quality setting.

So I kicked my settings down to high performance, and voila! I gained, what, about 200 points, lol.

How in the HELL are these cards in this review experiencing score increases upwards of 30% via a driver control panel setting change?

... and as for my 7800 GS score issue, whateva, I'll solve that soon enough, Unreal 3 runs great at 1203x684 in a 6 player bot match, all settings on medium and that's damn good enough for me... now onto running some OFFICIAL benchies on that game, and doing the same for Q4 and HL2.

Yeah I'd say if your games are running fine don't worry about 3DMark. Chances are, the more you screw with your computer to increase your 3DMark scores, the more your games will either look or run like crap.

I was just using 3dmark to confirm stability. I'm following Extremetech's guidelines for setting up UT3 for benching, I just installed FRAPS, Quake 4 is on deck, and HL2 is in the hole... I'll probably set up the Cinematic mod and play with that for a while; I don't have teh 0w4ng3 B0x yet.

Let us know how your benches go. I'm curious to see if your game results reflect the 3dMark results at all or if 3dMark is as useless as ever.
