Im addicted to beta detonators!

I know alot of you guys have 9700's/9800's now. this is my post from rage3d, If you own the card and have an opinion please visit that post and vote in the poll.

--------------------------------------------------
I love my 9800pro, but I dont like the lack of beta drivers from the ati camp.

half the fun of building a fast system is downloading beta det's.

I think the separate install of the control panel is one area were ati should take a cue from nvidia.

this is not a flame war, no reason to lock this thread, I just want a civil discussion to hear others ideas'

to be honest, if ati and nvidia had near equal cards on the table I would switch back to Nvidia because of the drivers. not that ati has bad drivers, I just enjoy tinkering with the different beta detonators.

imo ati should put a site up where hardcore users can download beta catalyst's after reading a disclaimer. This option could peacefully exist with the beta tester program.

I dont play counter strike and dont want to beat a dead horse into the ground, But there are people experiencing compatability problems.

I know Im spoiled, but 6 weeks between driver releases in not enough to satisfy me. skip a release (like 3.3) and your at 10+weeks.

Im willing to bet most of the people at mad onions forum would agree.

I appreciate the hard work of Cat Maker's team, but I just miss the frequency of the det leaks.

ever thought that when something gets so good it might not need driver updates all of the time?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Even for the 1.5 years I ran a GF3, GF3 Ti, and GF4 Ti, I only d/l new drivers when Nvidia releaed a new WHQL set. Personally, I think people have way, way too much time on their hands or too little to do with it if they want to sit around and test every leaked driver floating around on the web.

You should contact CatalystMAKER at either Rage3d or DriverHeaven about getting in to the beta testing program for ATI then.

They'll give you LOTS of betas to play with, and they'll actually listen to your input. (So you can tell 'em about your integrated control panel preference, which I agree with.)

I'm sort of miffed they started it since I've been pushing for them to do one for YEARS now, and now that they finally do I ain't got an ATi card anymore! (That may just be changing soon, more later. ;) )

Apply for the catalyst beta testing team if you want to toy with beta drivers. However, I find your reasoning pretty shallow--you like nVidia because they leak beta drivers? Erm ok that's a pretty dumb reason.

I agree with the integrated Control Panel inside main driverset. A separate download is annoying.

If they did that, they'd either have to remove all options to force V-Sync, or no longer have their driver WHQL certified, neither of which ATi will be willing to do.

Thanks Hanners, I never knew that/thought of that. I keep spacing the stupid M$ v-sync thing, that makes a lot of sense and I guess it is worth it. (I force v-sync a LOT, I still don't get M$'s decision on that one. )

DirectX runs better with vsync enabled.

OpenGL runs better with it disabled.

benchmarking should always be done with it disabled.

I found that using vsync in ALL games adds to the visual experience of the game in question that you're playing. It makes the game nice and smooth like a movie. The best refresh rate in 70 hertz as I've found anything higher and the game stutters, know what I'm sayin'?:balloon:
