I think I am finally going to get out of the stone age with my 32bit amd athlon xp and upgrade to amd64 x2 45watt with a gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5

I like the motherboard and chipset. I can't seem to find any complains against it except that it is hard to get stable with over 800mhz ram. I am not really a gamer anymore. I am getting a performance board mainly because I am hoping for longer bios support and I like the cooling solution of this board. And linux support looks good.

Any options before I buy all this?

1) please dont get the 8600gts. It's not even good for the money. Get a 9600gt, for the best performance for price.

2) enermax psu's are great but im unsure whether 425W is ideal.

3) dont know exactly which cooler master cpu cooler that is, but i'd recommend the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro. its cheap and good.

SOUNDS GREAT OTHERWISE :D

I wouldn't bother with the 8600GTS. That one is overpriced, even with the rebate. If you aren't much of a gamer anymore, save some money and get an 8600GT instead:

Also, I see you have some DDR memory in the wishlist. Was that an accident or is that for another PC?

I agree with the last two posts. The 8600gts is a waste of money considering the much better cards out for only a little more. Take a look at the good cards posted below which are also at a great price.

- eVGA 8800gs ($99.99 after mail-in) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130333
- PNY 8800gt (149.99 after mail-in) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133205&Tpk=8800gt

- I was going to list the 9600gt but it cost the same as the current 8800gt which is a slightly better card.

Both are great cards for the money. The 8800gt will clock higher than the 8800gs and will have a larger amount of memory. If you have the extra $50 I would get the 8800gt if not the GS is still a great budget card.

I don't think he's going to need anything like that. He's getting a low power 45w Athlon X2. He said he isn't a gamer any more. An 8600GT should be more than enough, and those are around $50 after a mail in rebate.

Guess i missed the whole non-gamer part. Pretty good deals on graphics cards now-a-days.

I agree. If you are a gamer, you can get a hell of a card for well under $200. :)

yea I was thinking about the 9600gt. I might get it. I spent alot of time looking for cpu coolers. I really don't like the perpendicular ones that are very common now a days. I don't like how they won't give the motherboard components extra airflow.
