I don't think it's all that terribly bad but I'm not paying for a benchmark tool, there's just too many free ones to be had. I can see if you're a reviewer or really really into over clocking buying a benchmark but I wonder how many people will actually purchase this thing? Seems like (lee) material to me.

Remember that they said they were planning on making games in the future. The idea behind vantage was they were making their own game engine to run the tests on, so games developed on this engine could be compared easily. I can't remember where that link was though, but if this does happen then they will make plenty of money licensing out their engine.
I don't think the engine is good enough to attract much attention from serious developers.

But still, humming along at 7fps in game test 1 on a system that'd cost about $1500 brand new isn't exactly a good advertisement for the game engine. Developers need engines that scale with hardware to bring in more users. Whether this engine can or not, I don't know... but if it runs like ass and doesn't look impressive on my system, its just going to be worse on most other systems.

I know it's not a big deal but it for some reason really bothers me when an app installs that stupid aegia driver crap on my computer like Vantage does. It just bugs me to no end.

You can disable the Ageia driver install when installing Vantage. Just do a 'custom' install.
I agree with the OP, but I personally saw this coming a long way off, look at my previous posts. What stuns me is JUST HOW FAR this benchmark fails to reach the previous 3dMarks. Only 2 GPU tests, too.
BTW, I liked Future Crew, I've tried out every single 3dMark, and I used 01 and 03 extensively, I registered 3, 5, and 6 (even though 6 was a big step down, but not as bad as this one). Of course I haven't even tried this one, I don't have a DX10 card, but I've heard and seen more than enough now.

I think they are making a big mistake by making this a 'pay to use' benchmark. People aren't going to pay and therefore we will stop talking about 3dmark soon enough is my guess. As it is you don't see 3dmark06 even included in many of the reviews for new graphics cards anymore.
I agree with others here that I'll keep using the built in benchmarks for Crysis which totally stress the hardware with DX10. At least when I paid for Crysis I get a fun game to go with it and the benchmarks are very cool to watch!

They probably should do something different though, make actual games, could be multiplatform or not, but I don't see their benchmarking tools sustaining them for any longer.

If they kept 3DMark free and went with banner ads and in benchmark ads they could make a fortune without forcing us average joes who run it for fun to pay. They did it in 2001, with the Max Payne for the game and engine. They also had banner ads for Alienware and/or Falcon PCs.

Stupid tool takes forever to load the first benchmark, then crashes loading the second. FutureMark is now on my ignore list.

Just gave it a whirl and i must say i was appalled, the visuals look like sh!t and it runs even worse.

Installed the hotfix.
Now it refuses to run anything besides Entry because my monitor native resolution is 1440*900.

We lost the old fun and amazing demo and now have a pure benchmark...
Question is, why change what was right in the first place and why make it simpler when everyone loved the cool demo with sound?

FYI, you do NOT have to pay for ANYTHING to run vantage more then once. All you have to do is input your registration code (for the free demo version), and it will run an infinate number of times. You just need to input said code each time.
