View Full Version : What video card is this?
Anyway, I was scrolling through pictures from the AMDzone "lan party" and apparently nvidia was showing off its products there. They have an nforce3 board, but what puzzles me is what graphics card is in the machine.
look at the nforce3 rig (http://burmese.home.texas.net/Images/2003-05-03/LansEnd/)
To me that looks like a 5600 maybe in it...but the cooler is really slim and I thought the 5600 cooler was almost as fat as the normal 5800 cooler (not coolfx). Is this the 5600 or some other card?

Does the 5600 need external power, because it looks like this card does.

Whoa, here is what i see.
BGA Ram
External Power
Small Heatsink (i cant even see it, bad picture)
Almost sure it has 128mb Ram (from the looks of it)
From the looks of it, we can conclude!
Geforce 4 or newer! (ala BGA ram)
Not a Geforce 4 (ala External Power)
Not a Geforce FX 5200 (ala BGA ram)
Not a Geforce FX 5800Ultra (ala no giant heatsink)
Id think its Probaly some 5600.
But could it be the, *gasp* nv35 :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana:
By the looks of the card it's probably the nv35 . It has the same mosfet placement on the back as the nv30. The cap placement on the front is very close to the nv30 as well. The major difference is no cooling on ram indicating DDR1 and of course the smaller hsf which probably means it's not an nv30 chip.

I thought it was the 5600 ultra, but its always nice to hope :)
It's longer than the standard 5200/5600 Ultra board (P140), but is most likely just a variation on it, because the layout is very similar.
It's definitely not NV35 - the die is too small.
MuFu.

hehe j/k
i guess your right, maybe some prototype of a 5600 or something that could explane the longness.
nv36 prototype maybe? It has a small die, a PCB layout similar to that of the 5200/5600 chips... Hell if nvidia wants to show off a machine they might as well use two unreleased products.
Or has the nv36 still not taped out yet?

Probably not. Supposed to tape-out in May, but I don't know *when* in May. So it could have taped-out, but that's unlikely. Very unlikely.

BGA Memory
Small PCB factor
Low Profile HSF
No Memory cooling.
