Black screen after vista logo

Hi!
I have freshly installed Vista x64 Home Premium. I install sp1 for it, then
I install intel chipset drivers (from intel website) and nvidia driver (from
Windows Update). Then I have random problem, that after vista logo screen
goes black and I can't do anything, just turn off. After that system boots
normally.
What might be the problem?

Laptop is compal fl90 with GeForce 8600 GT.

Have you tried leaving it to see if it ever keeps booting? It's done this to my a couple of times but I just left it and it sorted itself out.

Not longer then 30 secs. I'll try next time. For me nvidia driver from WU is to blame.

Mine goes blank for about 15 seconds after the initial logo, then goes to login.

This happens to me intermittently, and I linked it with the video instability issues because they generally all revolved around the screen suddenly going black and never coming back. It would happen while im at the desktop.. and in games. My solution is I'm now installing the x86 version ^^
