View Full Version : Reinstalling Vista on a new drive...
If I installed Vista a few months ago, no system changes and decided to get a new HD, will I have to call MS and do that all activation? It's such a pain. Will it just activate normally?
You should only need to call if you've changed your mobo.

most likelly yes, new hdd might mean a new computer for them. i know vista keeps track of harddrive serial models.
it forced me to re-activate by just changing a 3rd hdd once.
Forced me to reactivate after resetting my BIOS once. But then wouldn't give me a working activation code, so i had to reformat and reinstall.
Still better than Ubuntu, though.
I've never had to call for XP Pro or Vista so far, but I presume it's because I have an MSDN subscription and an associated Key.
