When I use a CTRL-ALT-Backspace, or Log Out, Shut Down, or Restart the computer, I'm left with the "black screen of death," as I'm seeing it called. This does not occur when using the built-in "nv" driver, only with the "nvidia" driver.

Pertinent information:

GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP 8x 128MB
Linux IA32 1.0-4363 driver
Red Hat Linux 9
04.28.20.16.00 BIOS revision
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
SOYO P4I Fire DRAGON mobo

Please take it easy on me, because I am a TRUE Linux noob.

My XF86Config and XFree86.0.log files are attached.

Some people experience this problem when TV-out is connected.

If you a have a cable connected to your tv-out, try taking it out and reboot and see if that makes any change.

For me a workaround is to use the 4191 version of the driver, but I can't get tv-out working with that.

WOOHOO!

It worked!

Thanks again for your reply.

I guess we can safely assume this is a bug in the latest driver version (1.0-4363)?

Yes I think so, in 4349 and 4363

I'm holding my breath waiting for a bugfix. ;)
