Marginal Test Results

I've run tests with both HD Tune and Disk Checkup and they return about the same results on my Maxtor 500GB PATA. None of the values exceed 100, where I'm accustomed to seeing something like 250, but two in particular catch my eye, because they are very close to the thresholds:

BE (Unknown attribute) 741015596 OK 56 47 45 N.A.

and

A Spin Retry Count 0 OK 100 99 97 N.A.

The average transfer rate for this drive is pretty fair, but has some very sharp downward spikes.

The values being best, worst and threshold, respectively. Since they do not actually cross the thresholds, will a manufacturer honor an RMA or not?

I just downloaded and tested with a newer version of HD Tune, and it gave the same values, but no threshold on Spin Retry Count, and it now labeled the unknown attribute as Airflow Temperature. Since that is not the actual temperature of the drive, which is given separately, I really don't know what that means. Here is a screenshot of the graphic test results:
