Is this normal. . . it seems rather odd. I think the drivers may be trying to use my system memory.

In the control panel system information page it says "Total avalible to graphics: 2303mb" and MOAA:Airborne Assault reports 2.25GB of usable memory. . .

These values don't seem normal. Can anyone post what they have?

Maybe they accidentally put bigger ram chips on your card...

I don't think I've ever seen that before though. Very strange.

Same here, my dxdiag says 2.5GB video memory.

This is normal, at least from what I have experienced.
Go into your start menu> All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information

On the main page, look at your Physical Memory (mine is 4gb). This is what you have installed.
If you have a 32 bit version of vista, look at Total Physical Memory (mine is 2.75gb). This is how much the computer can use (because of the 32 bit thingy I think).

Now go into your Nvidia Control panel, and hit System Information. On the main page you will see Dedicated Video Memory (mine says 768 MB), Shared System Memory (Mine says 1151mb) and Total Available Graphics Memory (Mine says 1919 MB).

So that 1250 MB memory that 32 bit Vista can't use for Vista, is used as shared memory for your graphics card. I don't know where the missing 99MB went, or how to change this, or what it says on 64bit computers. But hopefully this leads you in the right direction.

Now if your Dedicated Video Memory is higher than it should be, well lucky you I guess.

My dxdiag shows 2284. I wouldn't mind knowing where it's pulling this from either.

This is exactly what mine says, down to the MB. The only difference is I'm using 175.12 =p

Did you read my post?
512 MB Dedicated Memory (what is on your graphics card)

1791 Shared System Memory (from the RAM chips on your motherboard).

And I'm sure if you headed tot he system properties where I told you, you would see a number a little bigger than 1791 somewhere.

If I'm not mistaken this is more like virtual memory for the gfx system. Vista will only tap in to it if needed and it does not take away from available system ram. This is not the reason one would not seeing their full 4GB+ in vista x86. Its a nice feature imho

Cool. I wonder if it uses the memory that is not avail to the operating system when over 2.75 gb, or if it uses part of that 2.75 gb.

Also, isn't this similar to what they did with AGP aperture size? (like where you set that in the BIOS)?

Vista is stealing system memory :D

I did read your post, but if you look at my signature, you'd see that I'm using 64bit windows, which makes your post not pertain to my system.

Also -

Any x86 system won't share your video memory with your graphics card just because it can't use it. The system is limited to 4GB of ram total, which includes any ram on your GPU, so even if it did share it, it couldn't address it anyway. There is also a reserved address list that windows uses for certain internal functions.

I'm just worried about drivers trying to make use of system memory like that of hypermemory. It would slow down the system.
