No, I haven't and probably won't, but I found that article interesting, because I had always wondered why something like Quadro was even necessary. Seems something like exploitation to me.

By who nvidia for charging so much for the quadro?
Yes, but then I suppose that we should be happy that it isn't us that they are exploiting, they are going after the deeper pockets. However, when I was in business, my pockets weren't so deep.

Quadro's cost more because usually the people who buy them use them to make money. It's understandable. Though as you said seeker, not all business have deep pockets. ::(:
I did this with a 7800gt a couple weeks ago.

and??
Tell us about your Cookie Monster underpants.
Annnnd it is detected as a Quadro FX 4500. I have the Quadro 169.39 driver on it. I didn't do before and after tests, so I don't have much to compare it to. The computer did have a Fire GL 3100 in it that would never show as a certified 3D device even with the certified driver in AutoCAD 2007. The 7800GT soft modded to FX 4500 does show up as a certified 3D device. I don't have a real FX 4500 to compare it to and plus the rest of the system kind of sucks, dual P4 Xeon 3.0, 3gb RAM, XP32.

I don't know what a gooch shader is, but I think my 8800GTX needs one. ::D:

Oh wow!! This is awesome news. I searched a while ago for how to do it with a 8 series card and didn't turn up anything. I had no idea that rivatuner could do it. Neato.
Unfortunately I can't give it a shot now because I don't have any 64bit versions of my CAD programs that work in vista....

LOL I am so glad you looked up that. Made me laugh.
Follow up-
This mod does NOT work on my 7800GT. Windows XP did detect it as a Quadro 4500 and AutoCAD 2007 also detected it as a certified device. However, the Nvidia PowerDraft performance driver for AutoCAD 2007 detected my card and said it was not a Quadro. I could not run the performance driver for it because my card is not actually a Quadro. It ran for about 5 seconds in which I could tell the performace was greatly improved, then it kicked up that error and reverted me back to the generic opengl driver.
I put the FireGL 3100 back in and found a driver that shows this card as certified, but the performance is still abysmal and there is no performance driver available for AutoCAD.
In summary, for AutoCAD, get a real Quadro and run the PowerDraft driver.

Don't think this works on G92 chips.
