Looks great if these are indeed in-game shots & not just concept arts

That's because sun shafts don't happen in real life, silly.

I've seen some esp in the dusty weather at night (at night you can call them moon-shafts too!) or at sunsets .. they may be not be as obvious as Crysis but they are indeed visible.
i even used to joke with my friends about that when i see sunshafts "hey look its Crysis on DX10" kinda jokes :D

if i look at the sun thru a tree theres not even a hint of a sun shaft, just an overbearing brightness forcing me to squint.

Dust, fog and stuff like that are the only reason you'd see sun shafts, but they do happen. The effect in games is called 'god rays' btw.

I mostly see sun rays through clouds. Sometimes if the sun is very bright and there's a building or some sort of object obstructing it you can see a very defined line as well. It's definitely never as present as it is in Crysis though :p I think the game World in Conflict got it right.

Lol on sunshafts being fake...does anyone ever go outside anymore?

I have said this sort of thing a couple of times already.

People complaining about bloom effects, lighting distortions, things being too shiny. But generally speaking thats how things look.

I think people don't really LOOK at things in real life. The way light plays off of any surface in a room, the way every single surface has luminous properties.

Even just how ridiculously bright and bloomy or glarey it can look outside on a really hot sunny day, which is something a regular camera or a video/movie camera simply cannot reproduce.

Maybe everyone is comparing these new effects to TV footage instead of actual EYE footage.

Hmmm... not sure what to make of these. It looks good, but I prefer the quality of Gothic 3 over these images. It is too early to make a final judgement though.

Wow, that sucks.

I love the wilderness.

Strange coincidence though... I just watched Into The Wild. Excellent movie, but a very bad example of how to live off the land. :p

Yea there is. The GOD rays are real.

Strangely enough i only started to notice them after playing Crysis lol. Its a pretty awesome effect when you see the sun creeping through a small gap in a rain cloud...very sweet..wish i had my cam then..

ONTOPIC:

Gothic 3 was **** -.-...buggy as hell..it has left a bad taste in my mouth...i don't know about you guys..but i want Witcher 2 plz.

everything is starting to look like a crysis rip-off, I'm sick of dx9/10, been sitting on dx9 since 2002, and dx10 is a marketing pile of steaming ****. We need the next step already.

I think this is why the original development team is no longer doing the Gothic games. The publisher was sick of the shoddy work so they took the Gothic name to another developer.

Which means this is probably the most promising game in the series so far. The last ones had a lot of potential but the developers just never seemed to learn a damned thing from their previous mistakes (which there were MANY of). You'd think 3 game releases in 5 years would have taught them something.

I have seen plenty of Godray like effects IRL, like when it is cloudy.

The first thing I think is wow that looks like WiC :p
