View Full Version : Firefox is turning into garbage,
I have been using Firefox for about 4-5 years now, and it's quickly going down the drain.
I often get freezes, options not working like they're supposed to, as if the check box is there just for fun, etc.!
I've had to downgrade to 1.5 to fix most of the freezing. This is on a fresh OS install, but also happened on another install. So I'll probably be going to another browser shortly. :inform:

Try Firefox 3.0 Beta 5, it's good stuff.
My biggest issue w/2.0 is that it would often freeze on mostly AJAX sites. Firefox 3.0b5 doesn't seem to have this problem and it's very stable.
Just a suggestion.

I don't care too much for the new stuff with Beta. FF 2.0 was a great browser.
There is no such thing as a perfect browser, but Opera comes as close as any. The complaints come primarily from those who do not know how to customize it to fit their taste, but it is very simple to do.

Time to revisit IE?

I'm not sure why people don't use the built in IE. It works just fine, and is a lot better than the older ones before.
But keep in mind I'm pretty new to the alternative web browsers for desktops. Can someone explain to me why some prefer it to IE? What can it do that IE can't?
BTW, as for as mobile phones/PDAs, I use Opera. IE mobile sucks. ;)

For most users, its mostly a Microsoft love/hate relationship.

FF and Opera both far outdo IE in terms of speed and being able to customize to personal taste. I will say IE7 is a vast improvement over IE6, but FF2.0 + Noscript + Adblock keeps Grey a happy camper. The amount of usability that can be had from the extensions alone is good reason.

IE works fine...if you have nothing better to compare it to. IE is slow, shot full of security holes and lacks most of the features available elsewhere. As fast as MS fixes one security problem, two more pop up. I'm not that knowledgeable about Opera mobile, so I do not know if it has the features of their desktop browser, but I doubt it.

Got tired of firefox and opera a while ago, firefox was freezing on me as well, with multiple versions, I dont like opera's layout, was using netscape for a while and then it started crashing randomly. Now I use ie8 beta, no complaints yet, but give me a week. =)
SeriTonin,
Then why didn't you just change the layout the way that you would have liked Opera?

I guess I've been lucky. I've been using Firefox for years and I have very rarely had to use IE for anything. FF always works for me, and with AdBlock enabled, surfing is a lot less irritating than with IE.

Opera is great, you can make it whatever you want with a little text editing. ::D:

Interesting. Thanks Grey. I may have to try it out sometimes.
3.0 Beta 5 is a nice improvement over v2. I love the new active bookmark search feature and it's faster overall.

Hey to you FF 3.5 beta people, does it work with gmail yet? I know beta 4 didn't...it just wouldn't load the gmail page.

I'm debating on whether or not I want to go with FF2 or IE7 here at work. We have a few pages that run only with IE7 but then I've used FF for years. I tried Opera this morning but it's the same thing as FF IMO. But FF3 is a disaster right now, I really don't like it.

It is true that there are some web pages that will not run properly in Opera because the people that wrote them did not abide by W3C standards. But then, there are some webpages that IE can't run, because the developers did use W3C.
If you didn't see any difference between Opera and FF, it was because you didn't take the time to look closely enough.

I've used IE6/7, Opera 9.27 and even Safari for Windows and I still find myself going back to Firefox for 90% of my browsing. The customization options are about endless. There are just add-ons I can't live without although add-ons probably cause most of the FF problems. DownloadthemAll 1.0 for example really screwed up FF for me by changing a bunch of http settings in about:config. It caused some web pages to just hang and never load. It's fixed now in 1.1.

If you beieve that FF's customizations are "endless", then tell me if you can make if read a webpage out loud, or provide a screen where you can speed dial a website that you use often without having to dig for a bookmark or be able to use it to view a webpage filling the screen, without anything else in view? I could go on, but that should make the point.
