http://www.driverheaven.net/ Ha Ha, I'm an avid member of the forum that created these specs. The guy who created these specs said he just put down some random numbers. ChairmanSteve laughs at people who believe these specs. It was a joke. I didn't expect it to spread so much, especially when Steve said he just put random numbers.

I thought the 512MB was a pritty big give away, alone.

Yes, I saw that link around here somewhere....Anyway, maybe someone can dig it up...pretty amusing the way that one took off, even though Steve posted that he was just making stuff up.....

I believe the name chairmansteve made people think he worked for nVIDIA. LOL, I think that's how that rumor got spreaded so easily.

vr-zone today are claiming 0.11 micron for nv40 and 200 milion transistors.
Same for R400. Some sites are still claiming R400 is being produced ( xbit labs as well ) but here the concensus is that it was scrapped and Loci / R420 is coming out instead. I'm somewhat confused on the matter myself to be honest in regards to Ati's future plans.

Andy
NV40 is definitely not 0.11 micron.
As for ATi, it looks something like this:
- R350 w/ 256mb
- R360 (possibly still R350 internally, since it's only a respin) w/ 256mb DDR2 + Higher Clocks
- R390/400/420/Loci w/ 256mb DDR2 + Higher Clocks + Possible Pipeline changes (the only way for them to get the required speed, save for pushing the clocks to insane, unworkable levels.
There'll also be an RV400 (hell, substitute 400 for whatever number you want :) ) to accompany the high end release.

I dont belive the industry is going to .11, i belive they will follow intels lead and just make the jump to .09.
What VR-zone has is just 'predictions' made a long time ago, it dosent really say anything, and i am sure they hit an area of model breakdown.
Basicly they just plotted the transistor count, and the size, and assume they will follow the same pattern. Thats how they came up with .11, they are just kinda makeing it up.

R350 256MB is already shipping, right?
Yeah, pretty much. It was meant as a "from here on out" timetable.

Yeah its shipping but they are being smart about it and not makeing too many, mainly the market isnt big enough for them to mass produce those, the marekt for super high end cards is growing though!

vr-zone got that info from a japanese website (http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2003/0527/kaigai01.htm).
The japanese website wasn't very accurate in the past.

I strongly suggest to you that the above is not even close to accurate.

Then mister Hellbender, what would you your honest opinion on the specs of the NV40? If you wanted to get the top of the line card at the end of the year, would you get the R390 or the NV40?

Um, i do get the feeling from past posts that HB gives info out, that if he knew the absolute specs for any new card he would give them out......
And with the lack of a NV40 and R390 card to bench against eachother.................
Erm, we've all been saying those specs are completely inaccurate. It's hardly as if you need insider info to work that out either.
It's not 0.09 micron, it's not 350 million transistors, it's not 512mb RAM, it's out a long time before H2 2004, likely won't have 16mb DRAM, and will almost certainly not have 700mhz GDDR-2.
There.

Why not the memory ? That will be availble then, no ?

Andy
Perhaps, but likely not in the volumes nV would like. Not sure how the heat issues would play out at that speed either, so I'd suggest a more conservative figure of 500-600mhz is likely.
It'll be faster than the DDR1 memory we've got now anyway, if only to get over the latency issues.

Good point. I think even Micron are doing those speeds so that should have wide availability.

Hey, I know you from here: http://forum.pcvsconsole.com
I would get the one that performs best. We don't know which card perfoms better yet.
