It is a badass PC, but $8500?!?! No way. I've not totted it up but i'm pretty sure you could safe a good few $k off that if you built it yourself. Building a nice new mega rig is the best bit anyow. (as long as there's only one beep on boot :D)

I think if you add it all up and include the profit from the product, it comes out to 8k. You think that's ridiculous? GFW March 2008 Issue 16 has GFW's Ultimate Gaming Machines of 2007. The most expensive is $12,000. It's the Falcon Northwest Mach V wwww.falcon-nw.com.

It's specs:
QX6850 @ 3.8GHz w/ Sanyo Denki Liquid cooling
4GB Corsair CM2X PC6400
2x MTron 32GB SSD, 2x Hitachi 1TB in RAID 0
LG BLu-Ray/HD-DVD/DVD-R/W SATA
Lite-On 20x DVD +-R/W
3x Nvidia 8800Ultra
onboard sound
Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

4gigs of ram for that price is pathetic.

If I were to drop that kind of coin on a new system you can bet it would have 16.

SSD setups are expensive anyway, aren't they?

12000 and I'll give you two machines that buttrape that one for 12k.

Anyhow, yea, I think it's weird about the 6400 memory. That to me screams soooo 2 years ago.

Where's the DDR3 memory????

And what about the 2x 9800x2's?

Sometimes I laugh at retail builders and their lack of being up on new hardware.....and for 12 THOUSAND dollars!!

LOL:afro:

All the parts add up to about $6500 going by Newegg's prices. $6500 is still too much to pay for the functionality, could save $500 by using a QX9650 instead. The case is also $600, which is about $200-$300 too much because I'm sure the included watercooling is crap. So in general, about a $5700 system, making it overpriced by $2800.

It was on the Best PC's of 2007, 9 series wasn't out yet. I'm pretty sure you can configure it with 9 series cards right now.

Exactly, you can't look at a PC from last year and say they don't keep up with hardware. Now their default Skulltrail config is only $11564.25

2 x QX9775
2 x 9800 GX2
D5400XS
16GB (4x4GB) DDR2 800 FB-DIMM)
1TB Hitachi HDD
Vista Ultimate x64
Silverstone 1000w PSU

Sure, it's expensive, probably more so then it needs to be, but you can't get much better from a hardware perspective, except adding drives, and watercooling, which they let you do...

I've been doing alot of Ebaying lately, and it is not all that easy to find bargains. I think that some sellers are simply looking for someone that either gullible enough, or that is subject to auction fever. I can remember years ago, a cousin of mine bought a brand new fully loaded pickup that he couldn't afford, because the doctor had him on tranquilizers. Caveat emptor is still as valid as it ever was.
