the cooler master extreme psu's are actually budget psu's. their wattage is often lower than stated, as shown in a review of the extreme 600w version which in fact was only 500w :thumbdwn: . you shouldnt have purchased cooler master extreme power psu's. if i were you, i'd go with another brand. i can pick up an extreme power 550w here for as little as 50 usd. you get what you pay for i guess..

CoolerMaster seems to have never really invested into the enthusiast segment... seems like I'm always hearing about their PSUs and coolers being subpar in one way or another.

If one must go budget and wants to find a "sleeper" company, go X-Clio. Srsly.

The most awesomest CoolerMaster product is this: the EA-US1 Alloy keyboard

Coolermaster generally makes just plain okay stuff. Nothing that great, but not subpar. TBH, their pc cases are good for the money - howerver, i would doubt that psu

damn I just ordered that exact PSU for my dad's work PC :( On it's way already too.

Should I just stick it out and see if it lasts? It's not going to be put under any real stress.

basic intel setup.

Q6600, one wd sata drive, sata cd rom and a mobo. that's all. I figured 500 watts would be plenty for that. He won't be gaming or anything like that..and if the fan goes bad, I've got more fans I can replace it with.

Extreme RP-550-PCAR 550 watt

i forgot which one my friend has, but i know its 550W CoolerMaster.

and if you read some in depth reviews, it will say that it causes power spikes if it reaches it max, so if your PC uses about 540+W it will cause certain devices to fail, maybe burn out your hdd, or damage video card.

my friend still kept the PSU, because his PC uses about 400W according to voltage calculator.

when it comes to PSU, there are only few companies that you can really trust: Seasonic, Silverstone, Antec (the higher model ones), PC Power & Cooling

xtreme psu calculator says it'll need 259 watts.
