View Full Version : Rivatuner fan speed resets!
Every time I set the fan to a high percentage it resets back to default after a few seconds/minutes! Is there an option to force the selected speed? EVGA 9600GT.

Disable Fan Control in your BIOS. Sounds like it's overriding Speedfan.
Thanks for the tip! I guess it worked, although it was supposed to be a cpu fan option!
Well, it doesn't work now! Where do I find the fan control option for GPU fan? Mobo gigabyte P35 DS3L.
Use this (http://www.overclockingwiki.org/wiki/index.php?title=RivaTuner) tutorial.
It should still be valid even if using 2.09 and will give you finer control over your fan speeds with profiles.
Thanks! That was very helpful! There is one thing that I can't find, the add button. Here:
You can now configure options related to “Core temperature”. I’ve changed the “Maximum value limit” to 100.000 and the “Minimum value limit” to 20.000. I’ve also clicked the check boxes “Show core temp… icon tooltip” and “Show core temp… icon”. The first checkbox will show the temperature read out when you hover over the Rivatuner icon in the system tray. The second icon will have an icon in your system tray showing a numeric value or bar graph representation of your GPU core temperature. To proceed to the next step click the “Add” button (plus sign) (Again, ignore any crossed out text)
Begin, by typing in the name of “Core temperature threshold”. For this tutorial I will be using “Fan Speed 100% > 60″. Then change the “value C” to 60. I’ve also changed the color to red here. (should be red by default)
Next, click the drop down box next to “Launch” and click “item”. (Launch “item” on upward threshold crossing) Then select the launcher item “Fan Speed 100%”. Click the next drop down box and select “item”. (Launch “item” on downward threshold crossing) Then select the launcher item “Fan Speed 80%”
Basically, this will tell Rivatuner that if the temperature of the graphics card exceeds 60 degrees celsius (61) then launch the item “Fan Speed 100%”, which calls the fan profile we made “Fan 100%”. If the temperature falls below 60 degrees celsius (59) then it will launch the “Fan Speed 80%” item.
I don't have that installed right now, but if I remember right, the add button shows after adding the value..that might be wrong though. It's been a while.
EDIT: I found another forum that said if the temp stays below 60c your card will go back to auto. That's probably what happened before. I'll search some more and see if I can find a more up to date tutorial.
Yeah, I think it stays on high 50s while playing games. I really appreciate your help. Thank you.
No problem Alaa.
This may work better.

It's EVGA's own precision overclocking tool, which is built off rivatuner. You can use just the basic settings or choose to get deeper into rt's features. I tried it for a while in XP and it worked well, haven't used it on Vista yet.
EDIT: From the readme file.

Seems to be working fine in Vista 64.
Also make sure you are using the 175.16 drivers, that has the fanspeed fix.
175.16 Still resets the fan!
Is it resetting during gaming or after a reboot? I have mine set to start with windows, minimized, with the 'apply at windows startup' button checked. So far it stays at my settings through 1 cold start and 3 reboots. Default speed on mine is 35%.

Make sure it's not set to automatic.
I thought he was talking about Riva. EVGA works. Riva resets during gaming and usually while loading. I hope this is my last thank you! :)
LOl, ok. Remember though, the EVGA tool is rivatuner...weird why the EVGA one works and the other doesn't.
Have fun..:)
New version released today too :)

Changelist:
* Changed default tray text color
* Improved set of synchronization protocols aimed to improve Precision usage safety in conjunction with third party hardware monitoring tools
* Precision product version is no longer hardcoded in the skin, now you may press "i" button or move mouse over Precision tray icon to see Precision product version
* Added overclocking and fan profiles system. Profiles system supports 10 customizable profile slots and provides beginner friendly interface for saving current Precision overclocking and fan settings to a profile and restoring previously created profile via graphical user interface, tray menu or programmable global hotkeys
* Added option for disabling user interface hints system
* Added ability to customize monitoring window color scheme via the skins
* Added ability to disable monitoring window via the skins
* Added support for monowidth fonts and fonts with adjustable interval in the skin engine
* Optimized runtime skin changing routine for improved skin switching appearance
* Now Precision saves window position and restores it on the next startup
* Added new blue skin (special thanks to Derek Wood!)
* Now the skins are sorted in alphabetical order in skin browser window
* Optimized startup PCI bus scanner. Now the core supports filtered PCI bus scanning and by default scans just the fist 16 buses where display adapters normally reside. This optimization reduces Precision startup time by approximately 3x factor on the majority of mainboards

Nice! Thanks j!
EDIT: Really liking this tool - Plenty of control without a ton of options I'll never touch, and everything works as advertised. :)
Thanks jakup! Very helpful! +1 for the easy control!
This version seems to have a larger discrepancy between dialed in freqs and actual.

The shader clock has the largest difference. Not a big deal.
