I've been away from PC gaming for almost a year and I'm waaaay behind, but before I stopped last year I had played some LotRO and really enjoyed, thought it was a great looking games. So last weekend when they offered the $9.99/month thing I decided to jump back in and I'm glad I did, wow, that Direct X 10 client is beautiful. And performs great.

Last time I tried it in DX10 mode it was not very stable, and it had some missing texture problems at certain instances (indoor scenes, caves). Performance was improved from the first version but it still was not usable for long gameplay sessions (4+ hours), I ended up reverting to DX9.

Maybe it's time to try it again

Yea, I played for 3 hours yesterday and only came across one texture glitch and it was during when the camera was re-centering when I was backed into a corner. I covered several zones and went from Ost Guruth to Bree, back and to the North Downs and it was very smooth and stable.

I tried the DX10 feature on LOTRO a few months back. With my rig, it was chugging pretty bad that I had to turn it off.

So is it verifiable that it works now? I'm interested in trying the game out again if it is. I just don't feel like plunking down 10 bucks to give it a shot for a month until I know.

with the 175.12 drivers dx10 works great. Performance has come along way for lotro and dx10 since the first implementation.

When I see some of the DX10 screenshots I regret not installing Vista last week instead of XP.

I made a few tweaks last night and fired up the SLI guage and FRAPs to see what I was really getting, with vsync off I was averaging 85fps at 1680x1050 4xAA/8xAF and slider max, draw distance high, shadows medium. I'll play around with shadows more this weekend, but that used to really kill the DX9 client so I'm expecting the same.

Well I'm surprised to see how well it's working DX10 now. I remember months ago at 1920x1200, 2xAA and max settings (even shadows) it was really slow in Rivendell, now it's about 30-35 here, and 50+ in general. I hope it's stable, I played yesterday for about one and a half hours with no problems.

BTW monthly fees are lower now, however you must enter your account and change payment type for it to be effective. You must do it before june 1st, and you will have a discount forever if you pay every three or six months.

I've played several hours and it has been very stable, and yea, it runs far better than the early reports I heard as well.

Played for full 7 hours yesterday in DX10. Zero problems, full stable and great performance. Way to go!

Started playing LotRO a few months back. Extremely stable game and beautiful graphics; some of the best water and reflections I have ever seen.

Will probably play this until WAR.

So does the DX10 client improve performance because I see nothing that they couldn't have done with the DX9 client...

the water edge is softer and the shadows are cool compared to the dx10 version. I'll have to test the performance between the two later.

With full details it's a bit slower, because it uses highly detailed environment shadows that aren't shown in DX9 (see first page for comparison pics). Anyway I'm playing in DX10 at 1920x1200 with 2xAA on my 8800GTX and framerate is excellent
