View Full Version : Hardware Firewall or Software Firewall??
Hi,
I am using XP Home edition on my PC & wanted to know if I should use a hardware firewall or Windows XP firewall? My computer is the only one in the house & I was just wondering if one is better than the other for home use or if a hardware one is just a waste of money?
Thank You!

I use both. Redundancy FTW!

Oh OK. I rarely have my computer on while I'm not on it & if I do I leave it on over night to do virus scan or defrag I will unplug it from the net.
Thanks Bacon12.

latency for the suck!!!
if you have just one device on the network, then a firewall at your boarder will safice but if you have a few computer that you feel that might become comprimised with virii/malware then both is a must....

Yea my linux box stays on 24/7 and I don't even bother to scan it, there is no telling what may on it as far a windows malware. I use it to sometimes visit "questionable" sites, and torrent.

If im going to a questionable site on my windows box i would used FF with no script on the Tor network, under a locked down user logon with white listed programs. i never have to run a virus scanner or any other malicious program scanner.

Yup I use FF+ noscript, on both win and linux. Never was able to successfully get TOR working on my linux box:(

ive gotten it to work on ubuntu but the problem with TOR is that it tends to get overwelmed during the day and surfing through it get dreadfully slow.
