Lakers vs. Celtics in the Finals.

Last year was the lowest rating finals in HISTORY. Why? Boring team(San Antonio Spurs) against an incompetent team(Cleveland Lebrons). Who wants to watch that? Really?

I've been very open about wanting the Hornets to pull through and make it to the Finals, however I knew it wasn't good for the organization. Nor is any of the "other" teams. Spurs vs. Celtics, Lakers vs. Pistons, and worst of all Spurs vs. Pistons. None of these will be popular. The NBA Finals will continue to go down in ratings if any of these happen.

While the NBA has come a long way in the past few years, there is still a HUGE population of people who refuse to watch it because of the "thug" years. Now these people just watch college(what i call "no talent") basketball because these are the only players that play with "heart". Lord knows why someone would want to watch incompetent players play a game poorly. Anyway. If a good finals series is on, I am confident even these guys will start watching NBA again.

Lakers and Celtics is the biggest Basketball rivalry to DATE. To have these two teams in the NBA finals will draw a huge amount of former NBA fans that have been shunning the game for so long. I believe this will "spark" the NBA(just like Pargo), and create a genuine interest amongst people once again.

Thoughts? Anyone else believe that a Lakers/Celtics Final will increase the NBA's popularity?

I think the Lakers vs. Celtics is the most interesting series as well. Hope to see it happen.

Exactly. So many people have shunned the NBA for so long. Lakers Vs. Celtics rekindles memories and will bring people back. At least long enough to watch one game. If they still don't like the game, then thats another situation, but the point is getting them to that one game.

You wonder how far David Stern would be willing to go to ensure that the finals is LA-Boston.

If the NBA was rigged Phoenix wouldn't have gone out in the first round as they are one of the most exciting teams (viewer wise) in basketball.

The Lakers get better ratings, but it's a valid point.

I'm pretty sure Phoenix gets better ratings than spurs.

They do, especially with Shaq on the team.

Honestly I can't think of any two teams in the NBA besides Lakers and Celtics that would be a "good" Final that people would want to watch.

Me speaking personally, I haven't missed an NBA Finals since as far back as I can remember. However, if the Spurs are in another Finals, I probably will not watch it. I say that full well knowing that the Spurs have an EXTREMELY good chance of beating the Lakers. The Spurs imo are the most capable team in the NBA of beating anyone. They adjust to anyone they play against. No team in the NBA other than the Spurs can make that adjustment as fast. I'm not saying the Spurs will win against the Lakers, but I am saying that I am giving the Lakers no more than a 50% chance at winning.

I agree abou the finals, but i dont see how you think college is not talent ball. Sure the guys are smaller, and yes, less skilled, but they are just kids, and basketball prodigies at that. IMO, i love to see the game played onna more basic level because you can start to dissect it as a fan much easier then an NBA game. It would be like watching Schumaker (sp?) gocart race when he is just a kid.
