I have like 4 copies of PowerDVD XP... but I don't think this old version upconverts...

So if i want some DVD software that upconverts (to 720p), what should I get?

I want to discard my DVD player (480P) that sits on my media PC as it does not upconvert and is just adding to the clutter.

AFAIK, PCs monitors/media players automatically upscale. I never used any special software to upscale any videos I play, I just use Media Player Classic. Minimalistic and feature-stacked. :)

PowerDVD would be the best choice. :)

i'm not a big fan of powerdvd, i get much better quality with WMP11 and tweaked FFDSHOW

All media player softwares on PCs automatically upscale. Try running a 352x288 video, if it has decent bit rate, you'll see jaggies and tearing as it's upscaling to 1280x720 resolution and thereby stretching horizontally and vertically.

Use MPC with ffdshow. Beats every other combo.

The new WinDVD 9 has the best upconverting feature I have ever seen. It makes regular DVD's look fantastic. The "All2HD" is the new feature that isn't actually just a gimmick. I can see a huge difference.

Well ffdshow does give you a better picture but requires a lot of research and work in order to get it to look as good as powerdvd. PowerDVD>FFdshow.

PowerDVD and hardware acceleration FTW!

Use FFdShow filters and use Resampling feature. Set it to upscale horizontally to 1920 pixels (vertical is then upscaled based on image ratio). You can also apply sharpening, NR filtering, color equalizations and stuff. Just remember, you'll need quiet some horsepower for this to work. It seems to work fine on 3,15 GHz Core 2 Duo and above.
All this is independent of media player so you can use it in any you prefer.

Yea it is hard to beat VLC, and it's so much less hassle than anything else.
