Going from one 8800gtx to SLI 880gtx
EVGA 750i mb also -
Vista64
Any certain steps to get SLI up and running or is it fairly straightforward ? Haven't done the 2 video card thing since the 2 12mb Vooodoo days
Really wondering if a certain set of drivers atm is considered overall most stable and best for Vista64 with SLI
Playing AoC if that changes driver set for any reason
Thanks
Make sure you do a clean re-install of drivers.
Also i am not sure if Vista64 and SLI would be the best mix...Driver incontestability is very high.
I think there is a few V64 users here...but i am not sure if they are SLI.
Tho...i have to wonder...why buy another 8800GTX when the GTX280/260 are going to mop the floor -.-.
Vista64 SLI is just as good as Vista32 SLI, sometimes its even faster (crysis).

I have to agree there.
The GTX280 should be faster than 8800GTX SLI and it won't have the issues that come with SLI profiles and game compatibility.
...but will probably cost about $500-600.
8800GTX in SLI for < $300 is a good VFM upgrade IMO and SLI works very well for me in Vista x64.
Just don't forget to enable it in the nV CP.

Thanks and thats what I think - if someone can get me a new single slot card for under 300 dollars (with coupon and rebate my new bfg 8800gtx is 290) and it's available now I'd take it
I saw all the people waiting on the 9800 serie instead of getting another 8800gtx and am not doing that again
Now are there any fairly stable tools for ocing and fan control for Vista 64 ? Been using 64 a while but never used any of that stuff for one card
Have read some people saw ntune to other tools works in v64 and others say it doesnt -
Any suggestions in that direction?
Thanks
I just upgraded to SLI about a month ago with Vista-64 and it was painless. I'm using the latest official driver, seems to be the best for what I have.
The hardest thing about going SLI was getting the second card to fit.

Good to hear -
Same here - had to lose my Intel Nic as only had room for one PCI device after another 8800gtx and it was between it and the X-fi so got rid of it -
So far so good - will be playing Age of Conan more tonight to see how it does as I run in 2560x1600 and want to see if going from one to two helps framerates any
I'm using rivatuner to control the fans. There are some good guides if you google: rivatuner fan control guide 8800. I had some issues at first getting rivatuner to work with vista but following some online instructions I got it worked out.
You could sell your 8800GTX maybe.... After that you wouldn't have to spend too much cash on a GTX280/260.

Vista x64 and SLI is fine for me. I use EVGA Precision to control my OC, fan speed, temps, and fps. For Artifacts, I use the Video Card Stability Test.

Went with the second BFG 8800gtx OC for 320 bucks and it took my framerates in AoC at 2560x1600 to a steady 50-60 fps with 4xAA on from around 30-40 with some dips below
Quite happy with it and since I am enjoying the game so much I seriously doubt I'll change the setup even when new cards come out as it's ran very stable and faster and was worried about the stability part more in SLI
