I send my video card(MSI NX8800 GT 512mb OC) in for an RMA. Got it back few days ago, boot it up; played fine for 15-20 min.... then i get the tearing issue again. I set forced vsync on and triple buffering.. still didn't remedy it. Odd thing is.... every video game (BF2, HL2 Lost Coast, TF2, and HL2) i've tested on had tearing issues, but not 3Dmark 06. What could be wrong? any help/info would be appreciated.

You need some better cooling in your case, I would say!

have you tried omega drivers?

clixtax

no, not yet. i'd figure 40's aren't htat bad !?!?!? plus the thing is factory oc so it should be able to handle w/out any additional cooling. Now if it does help hell i'd drop down $30.00 bucks to get new coolers. But thing is.... it should be able to handle from factory fine, if it didn't i wouldn't have gotten it in the first place =(. will soon and post back results if it does remedy it.

That looks like some kinda memory issue on the card?

thats what i'm figuring also... =/ When the card came home i thought the HSF was in actual contact with the ram on the card due to the design of the duel slot cooler, but unfortunately it doesn't.

I agree, it looks like a video ram artifact. Check this page which shows different kinds of artifacts along with the possible reasons-

It doesn't matter what temperature my card is. It always happens with that creature.

Edit: Do you think I can RMA my evga to get another one?

Yes, RMA your GPU.

40c is LOW, lol.

My 8800gtx would often hit 90*C on Crysis. :D

Just gonna throw it out there, but does this happen with your 8400 @ stock?

I would try a different driver. I've actually had some strange issues like that recently with some drivers in some games. I even had artifacting and flickering shapes at my desktop with Dreamscene enabled.

I recommend the 175.70 betas from guru3D.

yup stock. i didn't even bother overclocking it since its already fast as it is. And i'm not using stock heatsink BTW. Using thermalright ultra 120 extreme instead. :D

hm... haven't tried those yet. I haven't had the time to RMA the card yet, so i'd give it a shot.

I have had the same issue when I try forcing a non native resolution on a monitor of mine.

Hello.

I am not sure if some one said to try this already but go into Nvidia control panel and in "adjust image settings with preview" make sure it is set to "let the 3D application decide"

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2972/nvsettingskl0.jpg

I had that issue in COD4 with the setting on "Use the advanced 3D image settings"

if this does not work go in and make a custom setting for your effected game with all the goodies turned off or low and work your way up.

I hope this helps. it sounds like your in pain, I was there once before with a 9800GX2.

Is your ram running over 900mhz?

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c133/libertysyclone/wellcrap.jpg

that looks worse then mine... at least mine was playable for certain parts until it became unbearable. Though I did mention HL2... weird that it would act up in that game. Since it has been out for a while now and it is widescreen native resolution i believe. Well the card is in processing with MSI Tech; so hopefully they figure something out either sending me a new one or fix my card; either way i'm pretty content if i get my system running again problems free.

reference: list of native widescreen gaming etc.
