Hi, just upgraded to a 8800GTS 512, a new LCD and Vista64 Home premium. I have discovered a strange problem where when i change the theme from Vista Aero back to basic, general moving windows around the desktop and navigating my way around is notciably slower. However when i enable Aero with transparent glass its everything is fast and the way it should be again.

Not that i really care but when i use professional apps such as studio max 2008 where i really need a quick desktop it tends to put a strain on things. Because studiomax has a known problem where it is incomptible with Vista Aero and automtically changes the theme back to basic when entering the app. And this is where i get the annoying trails around the screen due to it being really slow.

Is this a driver problem?? :(

System Spec:

Q6600
4 gigs of ram
Club3D 8800GTS 512
Vista 64 Home premium

Driver: 175.16_geforce_winvista_64bit_international_whql

Might want to try a different driver. A few of the 174 and 175 drivers I used were really glitchy with Aero and Dreamscene. I'm using 175.70 now and it's been perfect.

Thanks,

For 64 bit Vista drivers I did a search on nzone for the latest beta drivers and it says:

GeForce Release 175 BETA 175.16 May 6, 2008

But there is also an official WHQL 175.16 out which i am using now, how can the above be a beta driver?

First, drivers are released as beta, and then they are certified by Microsoft for use with Windows. It doesn't really mean anything, it just means that the driver passed some basic tests and was re-released as a digitally-signed WHQL driver.

Everything else about it will be exactly the same. Most of the time, WHQL drivers aren't any less buggy than Betas... at least in my experience.

I got my driver here:
