So... In my journey of trying to find best res for 22' 226bw screen I gave myself some time with GTA and tried EVERY hellish RESOLUTION which microsoft technicans have thinked off...

640x480
-Normal-FAT GUYS AND BLURRINESS HELL overall.
-Widescren-Aspect ratio is pretty good. Guys are a bit tall but not as much fat as they are in normal one. BLURRINES is still very overall but it looks somehow good like free 2xaa :D
Map is also nonreadable

848x480
-Widescreen only- Looks just like 640x480 in widescreen. I dont see purpose of this weird resolution.

1024x768
-Normal-fat guys..... overal crap for 22'
-Widescreen-Almost good AR. Not as much blurrines as in 640x480 or above one. Overall good res. Map is readable. If someone prefer a bit of blurrines then its res for him.

1280x720
-widescreen onlt- AR as above(almost fit)- Much sharper. Very good resolution. Standard 720p widescreen 16:9 res.

1280x768
-WTF ??!! Wht the hell is that? If set to Wide it look just like above one. Thought it is suppose to be best for 16:10 which is 1280x800 and this is closest one but it is not a pixel better AR than 720p. Also I see no purpose of this res.

1280x1024
-GREAT!!! What the hell is 5:4 res doing in here ?!?!?!?!?! Supposedly it can be set to WIDE(lol) in which it looks best (sharp) of all resolutions becouse of most pixels onscreen and AR is just the same as in every Wide res above(not perfect but very good)

13whatsoeverX768
-Another Devilborn res which is looking ....hell.. i dont known ...it looks just normal....

1920x1080
-Biggest res avaible. Wide Only. And its out of order on my 226BW which is 1680x1050. So rendered image is croped and only 1680x1050 part of image is visible and that area is very sharp and in need of 16xqxcsaaxaa :D:D:D

To notice. I had one saved area near playboy house to test fps. I was always going out on the balcony and looked at bath. ON EVERY RES fps went down a bit when looking at bath. And I was trying to see if it gets any lower on higher in some areas.
Then I did some driving in the same areas of the city. (played about 20min on every res) and dunno really is there any difference. Its hard to meassure anything without fraps but 1920x1080 worked slowest I think and 640x480 which is suppose to be fastest also had that tiny slowdown when looking at that bath.

Resoult ? 1280x1024 is proboable the best but I cant tell for sure....:headexplode:
edit: How to take footage and screens ? I have pc connected to the same display via dvi cable.

Sigh... measuring FPS with an eye that EXPECTS the FPS to go down isn't very accurate

I played with 1280x720 for awhile as well as 1920x1080 and I didn't notice any significant changes FPS wise. Until there is an accurate way to measure FPS subjective "eye measure" is worthless

Native resolutions is what's needed for any crisp gaming experience. 1:1 pixel mapping and proper aspect is pretty much going to win 95% of the time. It's different for every monitor, especially once monitor scaling gets involved. Different monitors, different resolutions, different results

Gta 4 render 720p internally (360 version) so 1280x720 would be your best bet, that way only your monitor will do some upscaling.

Anything above 720p will force the 360 to do upscaling, then your monitor to do scaling to fit 1680x1050, so you _might_ get a slight loss in image quallity compared to 720p

I also tried running in lower resolutions like 640x480. The game seems to have same fps dips as with 720p, but its hard to tell, atleast you dont see any big gains thats for sure.

So my conclution is, the game will always render in its internal 720p res.

There are some 360 games that actually renders internally depending on what res you set from the dashboard, like Tombraider Legend and Two Worlds, there you do notice better fps when running at 640x480, its relative big difference too.

Ut3 engine powerd games dont benefit from lowering resolutions either and I think most of them renders at 720p too but I cant confirm the resolution is same on all of them.

Anyone known how to record footage when 360 and pc connected to one display via vga and dvi cable ?

You can't that way. Both are outputs to the tv, neither are inputs.
