I have a computer with vista and it cannot enter into sleep mode even though I have it set at 20 minutes. I even have to monitor set to shut off every 10 minutes but it doesn't even do that. The only thing it will do is enter into screen saver. My guess is that its the monitor causing it not to enter into sleep mode. My monitor is a 24" samsung 245bw and ever other part is listed in my signature. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the same problem. My HTPC just will not enter sleep. No matter how long it sits idle. I think it's a Vista bug.

ive had this problem with so many computers, videocards and monitors its ridiculous. recently with my newest system it all works fine for months, then the screensaver would come on, but not the power saving. so i hunted down a screen saver that does the monitor power down itself. it worked..... again, for a couple of months. now the screensaver wont even come on! this is on windows xp. wtf?

try shutting down the sidebar. Have you ran an anti-malware program?
