it slightly modifies one (or few files) so the system accepts themes that are not signed by microsoft.

if you get the uxtheme patch from reliable place then its safe

I used it before i baught stardock desktop and it works great cuz you can find themes on theme xp .com.

I don't think there is a version that will work with SP3, yet, unless they've released one in the last couple of weeks or so.

Very true, you will get an error saying this isn't compatible with your version of windows.

Heh, I didn't notice your sig. I assumed this was all relating to XP. I'm not sure if there's a patcher for Vista but I'm pretty sure there are pre-patched UxTheme.dll's floating around that you can apply manually. I never bothered with them, though. Compared to XP's default themes Vista looks like a beauty queen.

There is a uxtheme patch for SP3, works fine here. Heres a screenshot of it in action....

Cool! I just downloaded this, ran it, then installed oddbasket's Royale Remixed (http://oddbasket.deviantart.com/art/Royale-Remixed-44294818), which stopped working with SP3 and now is back up and running! :thumbsup:
