An eventual PC version of Capcom's Resident Evil 5 (PS3, 360) is quite likely, going by comments made by producer Jun Takeuchi and the studio's past history.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Takeuchi revealed that the survival horror title is being primarily developed on the PC and then ported over to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Capcom previously used a similar setup for the development of Devil May Cry 4, which began life as a PS3 exclusive but was eventually moved to Xbox 360 and PC as well.

"By developing [DMC4] on the PC, it's very easy for us to work with the graphics and the gameplay, and see how the game is going to play," DMC4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said of the setup last year. "We're still continuing to develop it on the PC, as well as being able to check how it runs on the 360 and the PS3."

While Capcom has yet to confirm a PC release of Resident Evil 5, the company has been making a greater effort to support the PC across the past year with internally developed ports. This is mostly due to its MT Framework technology, which simplifies multiplatform development.

In fact, the only retail Xbox 360 release Capcom has not ported to the PC thus far is Dead Rising, a zombie-killing Xbox 360 exclusive that arrived in 2006.

The following retail title from Capcom, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, hit PC months after the Xbox 360 release, with the PC port Devil May Cry 4 due this summer. Nearly all of Capcom's upcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 retail efforts, including Street Fighter IV, Dark Void and Bionic Commando, are slated to hit PC as well.

Resident Evil 5 is expected to hit consoles by March 31, 2009. If a PC version were to be released, it would likely follow the console editions due to the optimization work required to support a number of different hardware configurations.

Yep, in another interview they said they do 50% of the initial development on PC, and then move onto devkits. Obviously, most games are made on PCs, either that or a Mac, right?

But yea, I'm pretty certain this one will come to PC.

I really don't know why people would even question it...

Though I will say those comments mean nothing, as every game ever is made at least in part on a PC.

No Resident Evil 5 for PC, says Capcom

Destructoid has contacted Capcom to confirm whether or not Resident Evil 5 was going to be released for the PC and were told “nope”.

A very tenuous rumour’s been doing the rounds in the past 24 hours that said the stunning horror was heading to the desktop. Consider it crushed.

“Nope, it has only been announced for PS3 and Xbox 360,” said a spokesperson. “Our UK office will be following up with Spong [the rumour’s originator - Ed] to have this corrected.”

So there you go.

I still expect it to be announced a month or few after the console versions are released in mid/late 2009 (my prediction).

of course they will say that, give it time. if something hasn't been announced they will never say the truth or their future plans when confronted.

That's a great non-answer to the question. The question is "is Resident Evil 5 going to be released for the PC?" The answer should be "yes", "no", or "I can't say at this point". Answering that it's only been announced for the PS3 and 360 simply fails to answer the question.

Are you kidding ? :D.
All that is made on pc of course, and crosscompiled for target plateform. the thing is, all content is downsampled in order to run on console , so ,i think it's why this is quite fast to port games on PC , usually 6 month later.

No content is downsampled to run on consoles unless that's the developers intentions. I mean, when developers make stuff like normal maps, they use higher resolution models, but that happens for all platforms. No games with 10 million polygon models. Sound files are compressed, as are textures if that's the choice. If they're making a console game, they don't downsample from the PC platform other than the methods I mentioned above, which happens for the PC version as well.

Additionally, when developing a game on PC, that doesn't mean the game is necessarily playable on PC, and it certainly doesn't mean it'll work on all PCs. They have to work a lot of other stuff into games. I mean, if you're making something like Uncharted, which is PS3 only, odds are that code ONLY works on the Cell and RSX.

It's from Capcom, it will be on PC, you can bet on it. It will be a bit later, just like Lost Planet and Devil May Cry

Well sure it maybe out for PC...but it will be a long time..which is what i am hoping they wont do...RE4 took some time to get out..and it was a pretty bad port..at first..which with patch/community made it pretty good.

their biggest mistake was giving it to UBI to port it. And then UBI gave the game to some other team that really ****ed things up.
